Let's see, is that plane going to leave Thunder Bay? Still has no Airworthiness Certificate, still needs to have a DAR go over all the maintenance records, still has an ongoing investigation as to chartering the plane when it was FAA Part 91. Guessing that if it moves it will be in the early morning hours with foreign pilots. Count on the fact that the FAA and Transport Canada are watching this plane CLOSELY. Am doubtful that it will ferry to anywhere in the USA. Owner is trying to reregister this bird in a third world country where no one cares about maintenance. This guy wanted to take this plane on a long trip with no evacuation slides...and rumor has it that there are no O2 drop down masks in the forward zone..... Maybe the person working on the plane can confirm this... Also beware of the Mexican guy..

Well....they taxied to the button of 30 to do engine runs. Man that thing kicks up a ton of snow. It's now back on the main apron...not sure what's next.
"The ability to ditch an airplane in the Hudson does not qualify a pilot for a pay raise. The ability to get the pilots, with this ability, to work for 30% or 40% pay cuts qualifies those in management for millions in bonuses."

Magazine article
Just picked up the latest edition of Smithsonian Air & Space and they have an article about Thunder Bays newest and largest lawn ornament. Not too much new written about it other than the owner seems to have some financial trouble. According to the article the aircraft was moved out of Cincinnati to "flee a stack of unpaid bills".
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Sad to say, for those of us who love flying machines... but things really don't look good for that particular potential gold mine of beer cans.

I guess it'll depend who winds up controlling it's disposition... airplane lover, or lost money recovery artist?
The only sure thing is that she needs some serious coin to get her fit to fly!
SP
Let's see, Universal has a lien on the plane for about 450k, the owner took 850k from the Friends of The Israeli Defence Force for a charter that HE canceled the day of the trip to Poland and Israel....oh, he kept the money! Gee why did he cancel it? Seems the Israeli government would not give him THE OWNER a multiple entry visa...so he got pissed and canceled the trip. He left people stranded in LAX and EWR. He used that money to take the plane to Syria, Libya and India with only him onboard!
You can read all this stuff on the web..the owner is K.A. Paul a self-proclaimed Evangelist!!
They use Skyplan in Canada for flight planning.. Oh wait, I forgot they owe Pan Am Academy for PC's for a cockpit crew (3 crews ago)..

Apparently they are waiting for a few final documents from the Feds and are planning a late afternoon departure on Wednesday (today).
As for going somewhere near I'm not to sure about that - the Capt has requested 15,000USG. Should be enough to get him to Mexico...
Hope hes got a good credit limit on the old gold card
Cheers

So what's the scoop?...
Has the bird flown?
Did they get their "final documents from the feds" (
) ?
Does "fit to fly" really have any meaning to those who could prevent it's departure?
Have they paid up for all fees incurred during their extended stay?
Did they pay cash for the gas?
How deep is Lake Superior?

They ain't goin to do circuits, that wx is a piece of cake for just about any IFR aircraft and competent crew.

This ain't no bush plane/pc12 or something. Little things like trying to deice the thing and acc.-stop distance might (I say again might
) come into play.
And I hope its not going to do circuits. I for one don't want that thing hanging around yqt airspace longer then it needs to.

Important Words
Competent Crew....GPI had one...all from United....then they stiffed them. Next they had good guys with a lot of 747 time, they stiffed them too..now it seems they have someone who will do anything for money... but probably does not know that GPI is known for not paying crews..

I wonder if TC did any kind of inspection of the aircraft (not the books, the aircraft?) prior to issuing that temporary flight authority?Murphy wrote:TC has issued a temporary flight authority to this aircraft. It is scheduled to leave YQT at 0030z Dec. 16.
Destination is MMTJ.
The FAA has given it authority to overfly the USA.
I wonder if anyone at TC has the expertise to do a visual examination to determine if the operation is safe.
As long as their ass is covered and nobody can come back and point a finger that may jepordise their pension, the airplane is good to go.
Just remember that shit flows downhill, don't let any splash on you.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.
