Meanwhile our par dollar destroyed manufacturing exports in Ontario. No oil boom could even come close to replacing that loss.
Oh no! Canadians had purchasing power! This will not do! Bring back the 65¢ CAD immediately. It's the only possible way Ontario can compete!

I'm certain that the artificially high cost of electricity in Ontario, brought to you by a distorted energy policy and not a free market, had nothing to do with Electricity hungry factories leaving for less green pastures. And goodness knows, tax structures are never considered by companies when relocating factories.
Exactly, the stupid left put in energy policies that killed manufacturing. Now they are trying to do it on a federal level. High taxes make it worse.
Now they are raising the capital gains tax. That will help attract high tech entrepreneurs.

It’s gang violence in Winnipeg, as I assume it much the same across most cities in Canada. Thugs killing thugs. Have at ‘er.

US violence is mass shootings that target groups of specific people. No thanks.

Larger income disparity.- American Dream. Work hard, get rewarded. Weird concept eh
American environmental rules.- ??
Higher healthcare costs to the individual.- Promote healthy, active lifestyles. Net i bet you pay more in Canada. or work hard to get a great benefits providing job.
Worse schools... unless you can afford the private schools.- Homeschool if you can't handle it. With the extra takehome $$ you have from less taxes your wife can be a stay at home mother.
US gun culture and it's connected crime culture as well.- Buy a gun, Protect your family. don't be a pussy.
US prison system.- Compared to what? our beautiful system... ugh
Loss of the social safety net we have all grown up with.- You don't think there would be contigency? The Liberals have spent all of our security anyways. If you're under 40, you won't see anything...
US labour laws.- Do your job and don't be a little bitch.

There, Fixed it for ya. Any other CONs you would like figured out?
1. I love that myth. Work hard get rewarded. Total bullshit. The highest paid people on the planet tend not to work very hard. They work smart. They have some advantages from family and friends... but hard work. I'm not disagreeing that a one should not be rewarded for work, just that there is a myth about hard work. By that metric, ditch diggers should be the highest paid people around. Income disparity needs to exist but, when the gradient becomes too steep for people to change classes, it's a problem.

2. The EPA is a very hobbled organization and you wind up with places being sacrificed for corporate interests. While we our own environmental rule (especially with the constantly changing targets of the last 10 years that discourage investment) aren't perfect, we do have the cleanest oil production in the world.

3. A healthy life can be expensive. So how do you propose that people who are barely scraping by get healthier when working more than one job to survive? Details, please.

4. I don't want a gun. Not having a gun doesn't make me a pussy. Having a gun makes me a pussy. Having a gun means I am so scared of my environment and so uncertain of my own ability to defend myself in hand to hand combat that I need to carry a pacifier to feel safe. If you want a gun, enjoy. But don't think it makes you tough.

5. Our prison system isn't great but; We don't have the highest percentage of population in the world incarcerated in our prisons; our prisons are run by the government and not private for profit companies. There are incidents where prisons paid off judges to throw people into jail who had committed no crimes, and would not release them after the sentence was over because... for profit. There are differing levels of bad in the world.

6. Pretty cynical. If you have ever collected EI, you have been a recipient of the social safety net. Did you get payments during covid? Safety net. The safety net provides a level of protection never designed to live on, but to stop you from being homeless and starving to death until you get to work and get back on your feet. If you don't agree with having a social safety net, that's fine but don't pretend it's not there.

7. What a wonderful attitude you have. I presume it's all rainbows and unicorns in your world and you have never had a company want to own you 24/7 or do anything wrong to you. Withhold pay for no reason; fire you for being sick; fire you for not coming in on your only day off; punish you for made up bullshit. But hey, when you sit in a lovely little perch looking down on everyone else, it's easy to be an asshole. Because we all know what assholes do. They go around shitting on everything.

My point still stands. There are pro's to the US, there are con's to the US. Just like here. There is no perfect place to live.

How exactly would that be a disaster? We're already doing it.
Sticking with our industry - let the Americans come up here and work for the shitty 703 companies - as long as we can work for a major like Delta. The economic disaster would be not knowing how to spend all of your extra savings.

Canada should join the Russian federation and China for it's defense, the americans want our country so they can steal our natural resources like they are stealing oil in Syria for the last ten years or more. The americans now have a criminal as president,he should be in jail not in the white house.

agree. Also we will only need to learn one set of airlaw. No need to study the difference btw US and CA airspace, oxy requirement, high performance,.... etc

I’m a Canadian, not an American. Asking me if I would vote to become an American is like asking a Belgian if he’d like to become a Frenchman, or a Finn if he’d like to be Estonian. It’s an absurd question.

Canada disappoints me at the moment and I’m uneasy about what happens next. But I don’t feel a lot of envy as I turn my gaze to the South.

On a more somber note, 12 yrs today the Sandy Hook CT killings of 26 elementary school kids and teachers, lives taken with an automatic weapon. One thought the US gun culture would be looked at seriously instead of “ thoughts and prayers”. However, I digress, the US of A doesn’t interest me in the least, we cancelled a Cape Cod/Martha’s Vinyard bus excursion this past spring, just lost any desire to go.

Canada would not want to have a pathological liar and criminal like Trump to be our Prime Minister or president, he should be in jail not in the white house. The judge should have given him four years in jail for his crimes he committed, all 32 criminal offenses.

Years ago the americans tried to take over Cuba in the bay of Pigs, they got their ass kicked, lost the war in Afghanistan, Vietnam and south America, The canadian army could take over the whole American army in a day the only problem is that we don't have any place to keep them locked up. Eh!
