Just too expensive
Back in the late 1970's I bought a Cessna 172 full IFR panel for 22,000.00 dollars, the aircraft had 700 hours on it since new, now the same aircraft with 8000 hours on it sells for 120,000$ US, It's an old beat up airplane selling at a ridiculous price.

That being said, not many 172's have been built over the last 30 years because so many people, likely including many posting here, feel it is OK to have a litigious society when people and entities are sued for bad actions of others. Those terrible corporations with their high paid Ceo's, they say. We'll make sure the poor kids of the guy who flew in shit weather with no instrument rating gets a lot of money from cessna or the instrument manufacturers. Then the manufacturer stops production, has to charge way more when production starts again, and there are less and less GA aircraft due to attrition(mostly those same type of pilots still do bad things in them).
There is a price to pay for implementing many of our beliefs. Airplanes are now very expensive......ridiculously priced. Look in the mirror for many things like that which have happened over the years.

Back in the day an aircraft was twice the price of a car now its four or five times the price of a car, old Cessna and piper aircraft are selling for 10 times their original price when they were new, don't believe me go to " Barnstomers web site and see for yourself.

Inflation from 1970 has been just under 4%.

Russia and China and several other countries like France are looking at having a new trade dollar that will make the american dollar worthless not even worth the paper it's printed on. And now we also have Bitcoin to trade with.
