Starting to wonder how the US tariffs will affect Canadian airlines like Air Canada, WestJet and Porter.
A lot of people online vowing to avoid travel to the US, which is a big part of the overall traffic. Business travel likely going down too. Some say they will go elsewhere for leisure, but overall travel could be down with a potential recession and inflation.
If I was junior at any airline, I would be concerned. Wouldn’t be surprised to see hiring to quickly come to a halt.

Re: Affect of Tariffs on Canadian Airlines
Not just a hiring freeze. mass layoffs are heading our way.
They are predicting 1M+ job losses across the country. 500k in Ontario. A 2-3% hit to GDP. It is being compared to the 2008 financial crisis in terms of economic damage to canada.
This might be the event that makes everyone at wj feel good about the company retreating out of Ontario. They seem to be the most affected(Ontario).
It is cool that we get to test out this concept of relative seniority so soon

Yep it’s gonna get ugly here. A lot less people will be traveling with the shitty dollar and job losses.
