Does references being contacted generally mean one got the job?

Recently interviewed with a 704 and they contacted my references few days later. The time they said they'll get back to me has passed so I'm not sure what to expect. Generally wouldn't be in a hurry but I'm keeping another job offer on hold since this would be a better gig. If I have a better idea I wouldn't end up in a situation where I lose both. Anyone who's been PFO'd after references being contacted?

It can happen, not necessarily because of what your references said, but because things changed at the company (eg pilot who said he was leaving ended up staying, plane got grounded for long time etc)

I would say though that generally if your references get called it should lead to a job offer.

Did you give your references a heads up? Did they agree to be references?

Yep the references knew they were gonna be contacted and they confirmed to me as well that they've responded already.
