Dash GS and base

Hi all,

I got an email from HR said that I entered the successful candidate pool but yet have a ground school date.
1. Any idea how long I would probably need to wait for the ground school? How long will it last?
2. I heard they now have a Dash base in YOW. Would it be better than YTZ considering the rent in Toronto etc?

Slower schedule a bit, but less movement in your seniority probably. Not a bad choice. Also means you’d get accommodation and travel to toronto for GS and sim unlike if you are ytz based

There have been people in the pool at least as far back as November that haven't gotten a class date yet, while lots of rumors of people that did their sim eval this month getting March.

I believe multi pic is weighed heavily similar to Jazz's pool but could be wrong on that.

Yeah I have been and no I don't have multi pic :/
I've heard of about five different people getting the march class through a couple different friends, only one of which had significant mpic time, and I believe that guy ended up getting called last minute for a spot on the Feb class. It's been a bit confusing, and I've heard there's people senior to me in the pool with more TT (and some mpic or turbine sic) that are waiting too so fingers crossed.

I sent an email to the HR and asked about an estimated date for the GS so we'll see but yeah I think maybe the base is probably one of the criteria as well. Hopefully we will both get a date soon!

Think about it this way. The pool will be filled with FO qualified candidates. However the industry is short regional captains. If a DEC qualified captain, or a likely quick upgrade FO candidate applies, who do you think they would want to hire first? Which candidate is going to solve their captain shortage problem quicker?

Dash classes running till May for sure. Probably one class a month. Summer classes depends on staffing. If paused for summer, will resume in fall.

E2 classes will probably run one a month.

Evidently there are candidates in the pool with more experience that they want who they are giving preference to (most of my time is on piston singles). The last I heard from my recruiter was a possible April or May ground school date, but have not heard anything about that yet. Just have to sit and wait for now, and see what happens.

Yeah same for me I asked HR and they said upcoming GS will be April, May and August but still yet to give me an official offer.
And they told me GS for April and May will be YTZ base as the YOW has no spot anymore.

If your in the pool, you don't have ANY seniority. You're simply a pilot in a pool who has gone through the process for hiring. Just want to clarify that as I don't want folks to think your getting a Seniority number upon placement into the pool.

As for when/who will be called. Yes they will call folks with experience first as they (like any company) want folks who can upgrade fairly fast. If your and Instructor of a 172 with 1500 hours, your upgrade will be quite some time. If you have lots of mutli-pic and 2700 hours, well your upgrade is about 1.5 years sooner.

What's your TT? I'm in a similar boat. Yeah that February email was an "interesting" way of filling that spot to say the least.

It's quite likely. Deliveries are slowing a bit for 2025 and into 2026 but then I believe they ramp up again. There may be one or two months this year where we don't have a ground school but I would imagine we will be hiring on the E2 for the majority of the year.

If you have the qualifications for the E2 I would go for that.

About 1000 hours, but none of it instructing. Pretty much all part 702 experience on light singles when I applied, but I also have some time on a 704 machine now. Which, obviously, not the ideal candidate in their eyes for a quick upgrade, but it would be nice to get more information. I honestly expected to hear something sooner, but we'll have to be patient and see what happens.
