Hiring pool wait time
Got placed in the Encore hiring pool about a week ago. I reached out to try and get an idea of how long I might be sitting in the pool, but got a pretty vague response.
Obviously lots of variables, but wondering what others have experienced. Am I looking at like 1 month? 3? 6? I’m not working at the moment so trying to figure out how long I can afford to wait before I need to explore other options.
Also, with the recent TFW announcement, I’m a bit nervous they might shift their hiring plans. Anyone else in the same boat or have any insight?

Re: Hiring pool wait time
I don’t have any insight to the company specifically but with tariffs going on I’m sure all airlines are reevaluating hiring plans and adjusting capacity so any answer you get today could be very different than what it looks like a month from now.

Re: Hiring pool wait time
I was in the pool for one year and then recently just got removed. My advice would be to continue looking for alternative employment until you have a confirmed GS date.
Good luck!

Thats brutal, how much experience do you have? I know they slowed down on hiring last year but they said in the interviews that they are looking to hire 150 pilots by the end of the year. Do you think it was potentially bad timing?Cheeseburger wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 10:50 pm I was in the pool for one year and then recently just got removed. 1700 hr ATPL single engine tuna can instructor. I do feel like it was bad timing . I think the hiring really slowed down when I was accepted in to the pool. As hiring slowed , I am sure they found some stronger candidates that bumped me. I still thought I was going to get a spot at some point though. Disappointing, but it’s out of my control. I know they are obviously on the hunt for DEC or anyone that will be able to upgrade quickly.jrob1111 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 1:44 pmThats brutal, how much experience do you have? WestJet is playing a game. They are holding on to qualified candidates in a hiring pool while asking for TFWs from the government, all at the same time they are threatening layoffs on the jet.
WestJet is not a company you want to work for right now... take that from dozens of pilots leaving and the quadruple that thinking about going.

Re: Hiring pool wait time
Westjet and Encore are 2 different companies with separate AOC's and hiring processes. They only have the same owners. Let me know when someone in the WJ accepts an offer from encore....AC used to own Jazz, and I sure wasn't accepting a job at Jazz when I was in the AC pool. Pay, etc at Encore is an issue but even if they paid well why would I move sideways.

Your argument is like saying that an Acura is not a Honda. They use many of the same parts and are owned by the same company. Only difference is the badge.bobcaygeon wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 7:15 am Westjet and Encore are 2 different companies with separate AOC's and hiring processes. They only have the same owners. Nah, the only thing that is truly 'Encore' is the pilots and flight attendants. Everything else including Talent Acquisition goes through WJ proper.bobcaygeon wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 7:15 am Westjet and Encore are 2 different companies with separate AOC's and hiring processes. Pool time varies. Shoot your shots with whoever you can, whoever calls first wins. If you want to get to WJ mainline quickly, don't go through Encore.

Check any EIC company. Looks like the market needs some type of 702,3,4 experience. Toss some lumber into a caravan. You’ll be fine in a year or two.Cheeseburger wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 4:56 pm1700 hr ATPL single engine tuna can instructor. I do feel like it was bad timing .
