New tax on flying

Post by garfield »

If elected, Carney is aiming to put new taxes on flying :

https://www.westernstandard.news/canadi ... lass/64052

Commuting is already expensive with all those airport fees.

Any thoughts on this?

Getting the public to cut down on using air travel for carbon reasons is straight out of his book. That's not a euphemism, he wrote it in his book.

They want to ban leisure travel altogether. Part of the Agenda 2030 playbook.

Yet all kinds of AvCanada posters are going to vote for him because they think it will maybe get them a strengthened hand in negotiations and a few more dollars.

Classic Canadians. They vote themselves into a lower standard of living over and over.

A Carney liberal government will make Trudeau look moderate.

lol.

Carney IS the moderate.

He’s what the conservatives should be.

Just remember.. this is STILL on the CPC’s website.
65. Increasing Airline Choice for Canadians
In close partnership with provincial/territorial governments, airport authorities across the country, and industry partners, the Conservative Party will both introduce and actively promote a new framework for increased domestic & foreign airline competition in Canada, including experimentation with cabotage on a trial basis on select routes.
But anyway.. back to chicken little regular programming..

Say what you want Bob but when it all boils down life was a lot better pre-2015 unless you consider everything costing way more, housing and rent doubling, crime increasing and streets and parks littered with junkies and homeless. Maybe you like that. You continue to troll here if you like. Doesn’t affect my political views at all.

Get those elbows up!

Canada had its problems back in the Harper days, but Canadians in 2015 were not ready for just how bad things would get after 10 years of a liberal government.

This year's liberal platform was written for Trudeau before the leadership race that installed Carney. Carney is just a new salesman for another term of liberal government responsible for Canada's lost decade.

tl;dr dis country finna be cooked fr if libs get in again

You forgot 2014 when crude oil crashed, 25% was wiped off the dollar, and Harper had to hide in a closet facing the blowback of his fawning for American jingoism.

Sounds like something that would benefit 40 million canadians and be opposed by about 50,000 of them. Who is more in tune?

Hey if it was a reciprocal agreement allowing cross border employment I’d bet every pilot in Canada would support an “open skies” policy. If it’s just allowing foreign competition to decimate our industry than it’s no different then protecting our dairy, lumber, steel industries so why should Canadians and/or pilots support it

I don't think many people even realize how much better this country was 10+ years ago. Our dollar value was equal to USD and we had the richest middle class in the world. Now I'm not sure we even have a middle class. It's unreal how far a country can decline in just 10 years. After Monday I think there's a good chance that Canada will start its path to break apart.

And the only way to fix that carefully cherry-picked data is more taxes, more spending, and more direct government control.

It’s what the USA is doing. Trump has spent massively in his 100 days. His tarrifs are a tax that Americans pay. He’s turning the US into a police state. And yet their debt is still spiralling and much higher than ours as a percentage of GDP.

It’s bad under the Liberals. It would be much worse under the Conservatives as most of these are global phenomena that pay little heed to party affiliation, only to how they’ve been dealt with.

Look at the countries above Canada in their world happiness index. What kind of political systems to they have and what are their taxation rates?

And then look at the position of the USA.

Provide your own data to contradict the hard data points shown then, not vague unsubstantiated blather.

You folks voted liberal. Please stop complaining about taxes on flying. In fact, you should be expecting much more taxes. Your vote means that you support a party that wants to significantly restrict flying with taxes. This is being done in Europe and now you voted for it in Canada. Expect airlines to have more expensive operations and less profits to be able to pay pilots. Don't even think of getting paid close to what American pilots get paid, they have a government that will strongly support the industry from a business point of view.

Salient points. Hang out at Substack, a place I hang about that is if you are not already there. Sure , there is an element of intrigue with the political discourse however posts are concise, thoughtful and well written. More to the point for me the knowledge base is quite deep. Here it’s modules of cut and paste, links from sources mostly one dimensional and slanted with I would suggest a persistent agenda. Then again we are all entitled to our views and various positions on the subject matter. It’s a matter of having interest and personally for me it isn’t here.

Kindest regards.

Canada was 5th Happiest in the last year of Harper and the conservatives. Now it is 18th.

Don't worry. We have plenty of happy government bureaucrats and associated retirees and many others sucking up taxpayers money. So we do have some happy people. They were cheering the other day. They probably all love Trump now.
