New Hire Layoffs at AC?

Post by Core »

Heard second hand the other day that along with the cancellation of GS's at AC, new hires in various stages that aren't fully qualified yet have been officially laid off.
Will this be applying up the line to any active pilots?

This is not true. Yes PITs have been cancelled but merged into larger classes due to scheduling/instructor availability and recurrent training flow.

Ah, interesting.
Ok, so to be clear, new hires that were freshly on the payroll, maybe doing online courses, have not been given layoff notices?

Correct. No one has received layoff notices as of now.

I would be very concerned as a new hire at any airline right now. Hope for the best but plan for the worst.

Last bid was showing alot of vacancies. Don't forget we're expecting a few 220 still this year, gotta crew them and a full training is around 90 days. you have to be ready when the plane get on the property

AC interviewer here. No layoffs. 1 PIT course a month for the summer, resuming 2 PIT courses per month in the fall.

This doesn't buy into the fear narrative. Pilots love the fear of layoffs, economic downturns, recessions, etc etc

It's what fuels the rationalization of world worse productivity, reserve, new hire pay.

It's always been dumb to layoff people making $50k/year when you can just offer early retirement for those making 5 times that much.

While there may not be current layoffs I have noticed lower monthly blocking averages, less callouts on reserve, and basically no VO opportunities. It does seem like things are overall slowing down with travel. Hopefully we don't go into a full on recession.

Cairney will take care of that with extra taxes on air travel while he flies his biz jet, make it a A330 now actually.
