I'm assuming the 787 spots are RP not FO? There's no way they're offering WB FO spots in pit.
They are offering some FO widebody spot on PIT yes...
Thing to consider, you'll be the bottoms guy for 2-3 years
Not 787 or 777.
The last equipment bid had people being force reduced. Junior YVR/YYZ 787 FO are 1000 seniority numbers ahead of someone being hired today. That seat will not go to a new hire at this time.
Should be another bid next month so we will see...
Maybe 767 FO. But there's no way 787 FO. And I expect we will see 767 reduced next month.
I may have worked that poorly.
Usually WB position aren't ''exempt'' from the pit draw, but yes, with the recent reduction, that wouldn't happen
It requires positions to have vacancies from the regular membership.
That those were available to new hires was an anomaly due to the short sightedness of the FOS contract.
Under the new CA1 contract and shorter fixed rate period, people want to get those positions ASAP for the pay.
There are already no vacancies plus people with reinstatement rights to the positions and groups, and when they reduce the 767 that will jam up those groups even more. I expect we will start to see a more traditional progression through ranks to reach those positions, ie.5-8 years+ depending on base/type. Barring some rapid growth or a disruption to status quo, you will not see WB FO position available to new hires pretty much ever again.
NB FO and WB RP, and really that's how it should be.

Anyone here who can share what the lifestyle is like as a junior 787 FO in YVR? I see there's a few positions available on this review.
Many many many years of reserve, I think RP is 2-3 years for reserve as well.

And time on reserve can be great if you live on base and don’t really want to work too much.
How often are these junior NB captains getting called out while on reserve?
You’ll be called out quite a bit, it’s spread out a bit more now as compared to the old reserve system (not as easy to pass on flying for more senior guys on reserve). Summer, winter will be busier, late spring and fall quieter.

False. At least on the 320 side. I recently had to displace someone to avoid running into FOM recency issues. I have not flown more than 50 hours in the last few months, and probably partly because I'm either not passing flights and I'm listing short call which makes me a priority over someone else on RSV who doesn't list. I am a commuter for context. I could have stayed home on more than a few 3-5 day reserve stretches without ever having been called. It's pretty quiet which is not helpful as a commuter. I don't know what it's like at Rouge or the 737 and 220 but the 320 is pretty quiet as a junior NB captain.

Can reserve more than a 2 hour callout then? Long call and away from base?

Min reserve call-out is 2hrs prior to check in or 3:15 to departure. Short call is if able to report within 2 hours of check in (2 hour premium). The earliest they will assign reserve is 2 days out. So anywhere between 2 days and 2 hours to check in. We do not have long call reserve unfortunately. That would be a dream for commuters.

Long call could sway my decision in the future for sure. Thank you for clarifying that.

Any ideas on when there could be more vacancies at YVR? It seems like there's very few positions there at the moment.
That'll change, when is anyone's guess but the 220 base will almost certainly grow and probably 787 and 320 as well closer to the new airplanes arriving. Unsure about 737 and 777 or if those will continue to shrink in YVR. Word from apparently the training manager was that the recent 777 reductions were a "paper exercise" to force movement and the positions will come back but time will tell.
