Najavo crash Deer Lake, N.L.

Post by itsgrosswhatinet »

The media is reporting it as a Navajo. They are often wrong so I apologize if the aircraft type isn't correct.

Looks like they got it right this time. You can look up the flight track online.

Sadly they are reporting at least one deceased. It seems like it was owned by an Aerial Survey company from Delta, BC.

RCMP now reporting 2 fatalities - 54 and 27: https://rcmp.ca/en/nl/news/2025/07/rcmp ... -deer-lake
On Saturday, July 26, at approximately 5:35 p.m., Deer Lake RCMP responded to reports of a plane crash near the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) near the Deer Lake Airport. The crash prompted the immediate closure of the TCH for several hours to allow emergency personnel — including Deer Lake Airport responders, emergency medical services and Deer Lake Fire Rescue — to respond to the scene.

Two persons were on board the flight: the pilot, a 54-year-old man, and his lone passenger, a 27-year-old man. Both occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Indian news outlets are reporting the name of the 27 year old, who was an Indian national. Seems like he was a sensor operator, at least on this flight.

I'm not seeing the name of the pilot released yet.

"CBC spoke to Dean Major, who said he saw the plane crash while standing in his contracting yard with other workers on the highway near the airport.
While the plane was falling, Major said, smoke appeared to be coming from the right-hand side of the plane and he saw the plane turn, so the cockpit was in view. "

20 kts lost on the departure end before the turn was made (100' change in altitude). Curious that the plane performed a circuit before the accident. May they rest in peace.
