Misc Questions
Im thinking of going to Porter on the E2. Some questions:
1. How long approximately to hold YVR
2. How is the commute from YVR?
3. What are the pairings like? A lot of single days or multi days? My intention is to do single day pairings
4. Days worked per month?
5. Pension?
Thanks

Re: Misc Questions
1) the most junior FO in YVR was hired in March. However, I believe there is room at the base if you’d like to transfer early. Good question to ask during an interview. You might be stuck on reserve for a while tho.Loading... wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 4:49 pm Im thinking of going to Porter on the E2. Some questions:

2) commute is doable but can be strenuous
3) in terms of pairings… for September, system wide about 25% of the pairings are single days. 2 days are approx 28%. 3 days are sitting at 22 ish percent. 4 days about 15% and 5 days are 10%. Most of the Vancouver pairings are multi day pairings but there are some single days. (YVR-YYZ-YVR) or (YVR-YHM-YVR)
4) we get 13 GDOs per month. If your seniority allows it, you can work much less.
5) no pension, but RRSP match starting at 4% going up to 9% over time.

Thanks for the reply. Is Porter still planning on hiring a lot? Or is the wave almost overCaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 12:57 pm1) the most junior FO in YVR was hired in March. Re: Misc Questions
Im going to assume that accommodation for training would be out of pocket since they expect you to be living/based in YYZ?

Ya, it sucks. Unless you get a base at hiring.pilotdude1326 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 1:29 pm Im going to assume that accommodation for training would be out of pocket since they expect you to be living/based in YYZ?

Re: Misc Questions
Thanks for the reply. The recruitment page of the website says they will hire over 1200 pilots over the next 4 years. So I’m guessing that’s not true anymoreflyinhigh wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 10:04 amWill be between 20-30 a month between both fleets till we hit around 1200 pilot. Re: Misc Questions
I think we're staffing 14 pilots per aircraft. Which is roughly 1000 pilots with what's on order. If you listen to the rumours, I imagine them extending orders and needing more pilots.Loading... wrote: ↑Tue Aug 19, 2025 8:51 amThanks for the reply. Hardest part is this industry is not producing enough quality pilots anymore.

I take that as a direct attack on me and I am deeply offended.

I take it you're trolling, or I hope you are, because CJP isn't, not even in the slightest, wrong... i've heard seasoned captains i've flown with say what CJP said countless times in the last few yearsflieslikeachicken wrote: ↑Tue Aug 19, 2025 7:11 pmI take that as a direct attack on me and I am deeply offended.

Re: Misc Questions
Is there many single day pairings out of YVR?
Also how long do the upgrades take from there?

Re: Misc Questions
Pilots are given money on their pay cheques to pay for parking. The amount is equivalent to a TTC monthly pass, if they still existed.
YYZ parking costs $136.50 per month and Porter gives their pilots $143.
