Nouvelair vs Easyjet near collision at NiceThis t

Post by Eric Janson »

This is scary - Nouvelair overflew the easyJet aircraft lined up on the runway.

Juan Browne has more info (The company name is pronounced NEW-VEL-AIR).

I'm surprised they didn't collide given the height of the tail (38 feet 7 inches)

PAPI 04R gives an MEHT of 66'.

That gives gear height of 52' above the threshold (13 feet 5 inches above the tail of the easyJet A320).

Wow… as the saying goes another coat of paint and it would be game over with a terrible loss of life.

I doubt the tail of the easyJet A320 was right at the threshold.

Using a 3 degree G/S - another 250 feet horizontally would reduce the 13 feet 5 inches vertical clearance to zero.

Looks like the 66' MEHT instead of the 50' MEHT prevented a collision.

The report will be interesting to read.
