Upcoming Ground Schools

Post by lucky1993 »

Anyone know when the next ground schools are planned? As someone joining the hiring pool how long would expect to wait before getting the call?

Thank you!

Have you received any offers yet? You’ve done jazz and Encore interviews.

Hello,

For those currently at Jazz or who have worked there in the past — how common is it to get a YUL (Montréal) base straight out of ground school? If not, how long does it typically take to transfer there?

Thanks for the help!

Another thread with ground school bids shows 3 combined YUL spots in the last 2 new hire bids.

As for transfer timeline, I think it'll depend on your machine, I can't say for certain. Anecdotally, I haven't seen a ton of transfers to YUL in the last number of months. Whether that's because people haven't been asking for them or they just haven't been happening, I can't say.

Hiring has really slowed down lately. Unless there are more classes below you, your base transfer could range from weeks to several months after you finish training.
I personally don’t agree with the assigning of bases after you start. Bases should be offered during the interview. Then you can make a better decision whether you want to possibly be a commuter or not.

You may not agree with the process, however those with a standing bid get priority as they are on the "property". Most of the new hires are being placed on the Q and are based either YVR or YYC.

As much as I agree with the fact that it sucks. would you defer 2-3 ground school to defer to one with only your base ? Lost 30-40 numbers is not worth commuting for 2-3 months?

All depends how many they hire and if they plan to hire any in YUL. You will have priority over them. Pick DH or 175 for YUL over CRJ

Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Without a crystal ball it's hard to know what will happen.

I believe historically over the past year or so, the only initial YUL vacancies have been on the E175. Regardless of type, I'd plan on a year out west if you draw the -400 or CRJ. Only speaking in generalities
