4th year apprentice wages?

What is a reasonable wage for a 4th year Manitoba apprentice working at a flying school with 19 a/c Mostly C152 & C172 1 Beech Travel Air and 1 Navajo?

where I worked 4th year apprentices working on MU-2s and some business jets made about $16-17/hr.

hey man, in manitoba you are lucky to see anything over the $15.00 mark, before you have that licence in your hot little hand. keep in mind that manitoba is becoming the black hole of canadian aviation. no wants to stay there, and no body would ever move there. good luck in your quest for the best wage. later

Any particular reason why MB no longer finds flavour?? Well the wages are lower, that's probably one of the reasons...but couldn't be the only one mate...there's lots o other places that you get paid shits for all in a day's work!
All I'm saying is..there's gotta be more reasons why you say MB is bad for now...
If I were a wannabe, I'd be looking at moving in where everyone's movin out..

Northwestern Air Lease (Ft. Smith) 16.00 / hr, Buffalo Airways 20.00 / hr, First Air 15.00 / hr., all pretty much the same except at Joe's place - if you hung in there for 2-3 years. After that you are free to choose an pick, so I guess we are just having to wait it out.

Sounds like someone is bitter. Manitoba's aerospace industry is just fine. Just because Skyward disappeared doesn't mean much. Small airlines come and go all the time. In the mean time, there are plenty of companies in Manitoba. An internet search results in some of the following aerospace companies with jobs in Manitoba: Air Canada, Standard Aero, Perimeter/Keewatin Air, Aero Recip, ACS, Calm Air, Fast Air, Keystone, Manitoba Government Air Services, Boeing, Bristol Aerospace, Canadian Propellor, Harv's Air, Custom Helicopters, Southport Aerospace Center etc etc.....

The cost of living in Manitoba is lower than many other provinces, so the wages are sometimes lower and a bit easier to take.

If I was to start a business, I would look in to Manitoba. There are a few advantages to starting up there if you can compete with the low-ballers.

Of course there is the high tax, the climate and the mosquitos to contend with but it looks like plenty of companies stick it out and have managed to capitalize on the abundant affordable work force and low cost utilities.

The AME wages vary as well quite a bit. I have heard that that there is presently a study being carried out on the working hours of AME's because of the long working hours compared to the low-wage situation. Comments?

If you wanna make some more money then that get you licence, but if you dont plan on that you preaty well gotta go north, yellowknife and suroundings usaly pay about 20 bucks an hour for a 4th year but the cost of living is way higher then most places in canada. so your call man.

get your plumbing ticket. Saw add recently in an alberta paper for 37 a/hr, plus 500 signing bunus, and a company van + all moving expenses.

Aviation has a long ways to go just to catch up to journeymen plumbers.

Company is ACE plumbing, in case anyone calls bullsh1t.

Hehe, I guess I forgot about good old "for the glory" reasoning. You guys are kidding right??? right??

But seriously, that's a good point. What else keeps people in this mess called aviation? It's not comparitivly good pay, not the great hours, not the great stability,etc. Are people really staying/coming in for the "glory"? If that is it, it's sadly pathetic.

Actually, yeah i was kidding. No there is no glory in this job that we do. The only reason I am doing it is because I truly love aviation and i couldn't imagine doing anything else. Yeah the hours might be long and I may never be at home, and the pay isn't always the greatest (although on the rotary side it seems to be better) but atleast i'm not stuck at a desk 8 hours a day. So I just suck it up for now and hope that someday we will be payed what we are worth and that management will realize what an integral part of the operation we truly are.................rotorhead350

level 1 apprentice : 9-10 dollars an hour, often dumping lavs in the middle of the night. no respect! put me on welfare instead!

lets be honest here, working in this industry isn't very hard(Labour intensive) and the higher you go the less you do (I'm talkin grunt work here). You might have the occasional Lav snag but for the most part it ain't that bad. What you don't get paid for is the responsibility "you can't have a bad day" senario (If your a pilot or a AME) which isn't right but thats just the way it is....
