MARITIMES TO YELLOWKNIFE - ROAD TRIP
Hi everyone,
I’m a recent grad and CPL holder with Multi-IFR and IATRA (approximately 210 hours total time) and I am currently traveling (with all that I own) from New Brunswick to Montreal, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton and up to Yellowknife in the coming weeks as part of my job search.
I’m actively seeking a ramp, ground operations, or dispatch position with a clear internal pathway toward a flight crew role. I am fully prepared to relocate and begin immediately, and my goal is to earn advancement through performance, reliability, and commitment to the operation.
If anyone has current insight on operators hiring — or advice on who is worth visiting in person — I would genuinely appreciate the guidance.
I know there is mixed opinions on this type of approach, but I'm hoping that it shows perspective employers that I am committed and ready to work.
Thank you in advance for your time.

The Canadian aviation industry is absolutely disgusting for a new grad to have to go do this. Please don't get abused out there.
Re: MARITIMES TO YELLOWKNIFE - ROAD TRIP
From my experince of applying to jobs for this spring, it seemes most of the hiring for the 703 ops happens right after the winter break. I was pretty fortuntate and finished my wet CPL & ratings around December. So when i was applying to Jobs they were starting to look. It was still one of the hardest things I've ever done; but I was fortuante enoguh to get one. From my experince this is a couple things I learned:
>Like i mentioned, most of the hiring for the summer season might of already been done, although there are always drop outs and I dont mean to discourage. Just know you might hear alot of that.
>Mechanical ability is gold. Most of my interview question were about my mechanical abilities and diagnotic abilities outside of my flying experince.
>Humility. I stressed this. I think alot of CPL holders feel they are owed the job and operators hate to hear any sort of attitude like this. Think of it like an apprenticeship.
>Have a good avation resume. 1 page.
>Sell your character more than anything. Most of these jobs are going to have crewhouses and they are looking to see if they can live with you, not if you are the best thing to ever touch an airplane.
>Also FYI the going rate for entry level is around 3/4k a month at the moment from what i saw.
Best of luck!

Re: MARITIMES TO YELLOWKNIFE - ROAD TRIP
This is the way I found my very first job , driving and dropping off resumes. A float operator in Northern Ontario hired me on the spot on a Friday and I started the following Monday morning.
I highly suggest getting a float rating and hitting every float operator and start working the dock if necessary .
Best flying and work and life experience you will get.
The float operator hired me because I was the only one that knocked on his door in person.
Good luck and don’t stop

Could you show us on the doll Me262 where the big bad bogey man of Canadian Aviation touched you?
-Perhaps you maybe could add something constructive to the discussion? Surely you can do better than what you posted above. Just a thought.
To the OP,
It wasn’t all that long ago that I did a road trip myself, (okay it was a long time ago) and not only was it fruitful but it really was a start of a journey of a lifetime.
Put yourself in a CP’s shoes… Tons of resumes from low timers carpet bombing every operation in the country, including their inbox! If you were he/she would you hire the unknown from a stack of resumes or the guy/gal whom showed up to hand deliver their application and have a quick coffee and perhaps walk though their facilities?
I highly suspect that you are on the right (pun intended) road!
Feel free to reach out via PM should you require more intel as some of us were given a leg up by a mentor on this site in the past. There is no better joy than paying it forward.
All the best,
TPC
