Charges are now being recommended against 10 misbehaving passengers police had to remove from a Mexico-bound flight at Vancouver International Airport over the weekend.
Around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a report of “unruly passengers” aboard flight WS2662 to Cabo San Lucas, according to Richmond RCMP.
The individuals were allegedly not complying with flight crew instructions, which created safety concerns and delayed the flight, police said.
“Richmond RCMP officers attended and worked with airline staff to safely de‑escalate the situation, which included directing passengers to deplane,” Mounties wrote in a statement.
There were no reported injuries, and the flight eventually departed for Mexico around 9:30 a.m.
Police arrested 10 people who were later released on undertakings with a date to appear in Richmond Provincial Court.
In an update Tuesday, Mounties said they are recommending mischief charges under the Criminal Code and failure to comply with flight crew instructions under the Aeronautics Act.
In a statement, WestJet said it is conducting a “thorough review” of the incident.

Re: WJ flight has 10 unruly pax arrested
Nearly 60% of all disruptive passenger reports in 2025 came from WestJet flights, far ahead of others when it comes to disruptive behaviour. Flights to and from Calgary also made up almost 40% of all reports, the most for any Canadian city.

I'd be curious how many of those were Sunwing vacations flights. Because this one in Vancouver was one as well...

Corporate image is a thing and so are sunk costs.
None of WJ’s -200s looked like this before they were turned into coke cans.
It’s Walmart Air now. And the clientele shows.

Re: WJ flight has 10 unruly pax arrested
I read on another site that WS has decided to report all threats Level 1 and up to TC, even though previously only Level 3 had to be reported. It could just be that WS is reporting more than everyone, not that they have more occurrences. I don't know this as fact.

Don't try to downplay this. There are a number of 800's that make this one look like it's freshly painted.

Gerry doesn't want to spend money because he thinks an IPO is around the corner ...

IPO for a second tier airline obviously on shaky ground in a province that threatens separation while global energy prices are on a roller coaster and consumers are hunkering down with recessionary pressure and interest rates in flux?
I think LottoMax might be a better bet.
Re: WJ flight has 10 unruly pax arrested
They are not arresting a level 1, title says 10 arrested so I’m going with at least level 3co-joe wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2026 9:03 pmI read on another site that WS has decided to report all threats Level 1 and up to TC, even though previously only Level 3 had to be reported. Re: WJ flight has 10 unruly pax arrested
Two separate issues, one WS had an incident where 10 people got arrested. Likely level 3 or higher, the police rarely if ever take any action against level 1 or 2 people. They take their ID, and ask them if they know where the door is.cdnavater wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2026 12:06 pmThey are not arresting a level 1, title says 10 arrested so I’m going with at least level 3co-joe wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2026 9:03 pmI read on another site that WS has decided to report all threats Level 1 and up to TC, even though previously only Level 3 had to be reported. Second issue is the suggestion that WS has more unruly pax than anyone else, which I don't believe to be true. I was told that WS started reporting all threats regardless of level to TC, which makes their numbers look big. WS is a data driven business model, if they don't have data on something, it doesn't exist to them.
Re: WJ flight has 10 unruly pax arrested
You may be correct but do you know what other airlines report? For all we know, WJ was the only one not reporting level 1-2 and a TC audit pointed this out, precipitating why they now report all levelsco-joe wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2026 9:53 amTwo separate issues, one WS had an incident where 10 people got arrested. Public flogging would reduce this sort of behaviour.

Better still, let the people fly, and then have them arrested in Mexico..
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

I bet they're better behaved after 6 months in a Mexican prison for cursing out at an FA.tsgarp wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2026 5:47 pm…the poor Mexicans have enough problems….North Shore wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2026 8:10 pm Better still, let the people fly, and then have them arrested in Mexico..![]()
