PAL questions

Post by flyer02 »

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get a realistic picture of the situation at PAL, particularly the YHZ base. I am just starting my PPL and I am exploring options for the long term. I am intrigued by the lifestyle that PAL offers, particularly the ability to schedule 1 day pairings.

The downside of this lifestyle seems to be the lower pay. The latest figures I could find were a bit disappointing but only showed up to 2024.

Does anyone have any up to date information regarding:

- updated pay scales for FO/Captain
- Typical schedule/pairings YHZ base
- Overall QOL compared to JAZZ and other maritime operators?
- Any other operators within Canada that could offer a similar/interesting lifestyle if pay is not my #1 goal.

Any info is appreciated,
Thanks!

From what I've heard, pay among other things are currently in negotiation. No idea what to expect, though could be commensurate with other operators doing the same thing. Maybe 60 to 65k to start? Who knows.

Starting pay:
FO 55k -> 77k after 10 years
Captain 104k -> 134k after 13 years

Typical pairings can be afternoon, back in the evening or 2 nights away. If you're senior you can bid for pairings that will allow you to be home at night more than the average operator (or so I've heard).

QOL I've heard is decent, with much to be desired in pay. With the rising costs of everything, it really is no surprise. But that's Canadian aviation for you, dangle the carrot and the horse will work.

As far as other operators I couldn't say, sorry.
