Why not? We can start by adopting it as a general ALPA policy and turn it into an ALPA style seniority number. Make it reciprocal between different bargaining units. Whoever participates gets the protection/advantages. And let it grow slowly as every collective agreement gets renewed.
The benefits to the pilots would be huge.
I was replying regarding nurses... They don't port between bargaining units, provinces etc. They still need to get hired. They aren't eligible for jobs unless they have certain qualifications, seniority only comes in when it's 2 qualified people in the same unit applying for same job, if you're not in there unit it has no bearing. Also you are talking about a very narrow band of pay, maybe $45-$60 an hour range almost entirely based longevity, not position.
Most pilot groups don't pay like that and I wouldn't want them to pay like that. I don't want status pay. I like the CA pay / FO pay and formula pay model.
