How many are they hiring and for how long?
16 FO vacancies for Sept bid, to be filled from Encore flow. It has been mentioned they will plan to hire the following month too, so some OTS is expected.
These aren’t to replace FOs upgrading, they are due to FOs leaving ‘natural and planned attrition’ is the official term.
Some upgrades are expected though. To be announced later.

And yes, they need to replace pilots who left or are leaving.
I can imagine that the guys from the east displaced to Vancouver find it rather hard and decide to leave.

to me it looks like Westjet is overstaffed in the summer and understaffed in the winter. Interesting.

AR jockeys are headed out the door when they lose arbitration in August. That makes 200+ eligible for manditory retirement in the next 2 years. Not everyone retires at 65 as well. Always a reactive solution rather than proactive.

So I guess the people waiting in the pool should've been called out.

How can you be so sure that they are going to lose the arbitration?

What make you think they're going to win it? It was agreed that they leave property by nov 1st 2025. Seems like WJ are the only ones tolerating this non sense.

I just have doubts. The Union is evaluating how many AR pilots could be accommodated. The number they will come up with weigh a lot in the arbitration.

Also on a different case, every body was convinced that swg pilots would get the years of service...

So wait and see.
