Springbank Customs?

Anyone cleared at Springbank recently?

Lethbridge seems to be a no go unless CANPASS. Canpass on the phone seemed to indicate Springbank is an alternative and their website says "on a cost recovery basis with the airport" for AOE/15.

Any idea what the fees are, if any?

Can't use Coutts since the plane isn't insured for turf strips. Would like to avoid going to Regina or Cranbrook.

Haven't cleared since it switched to CANPASS holders only so not sure what the fee is. You will have to call the airport - (403) 286-1494 to see what they charge. Will probably be cheaper than your other alternatives.

I clear in springbank all the time. Have CANPASS. Phone before departing the states and have never had anyone meet my aircraft on arrival.

For anyone else reading, I spoke with someone different at Canpass. Without CANPASS Air, Calgary and Edmonton are the only "for sure" options. Springbank is if they have time and the cost is unknown until after based on overtime etc. Sounds expensive.

Wouldn't give me the option to use Milk River despite it being only a few miles from the land crossing. They used to work with this despite it being a CANPASS Air only airport.

Lethbridge is now CANPASS Air only.

Kinda ridiculous there's basically no where GA friendly to clear in Alberta, though Springbank could be an option for an unknown price. I imagine there's no charge if they don't come out. Ontario has numerous good 24 hour options that are cost free, or very limited landing charges.

But if you want GA friendly, but no grass runways, you're limiting yourself a bit.

Does your insurance specifically state no grass? I've not seen that. Grass is easy and much more forgiving than asphalt.

Plane's owner took hull coverage for turf strips off. I guess it was significantly less.

Only if smooth and well maintained, and it's not really possible to see that from the air.
