Sunscreen

So I've been thinking about wearing sunscreen and moisturizer when I'm flying.

Seems like spending 8+ hours above 30000ft exposes us to some UVA rays coming in from the cockpit side windows. Also the low humidity (apparently half that of the Sahara desert) ain't great.

Does anyone else wear sunscreen and or moisturizer? If so what type and how often do you reapply it?

Just cover the windows with newspapers and leave enough to be able to look out.

If you’re concerned, then just wear the sunscreen and moisturizer. SPF 50 and any decent moisturizer will be fine. Problem solved

Except most sunscreen isn't that good for you either. Spend the $140 on window shades for your aircraft. There's a bunch on Amazon that fit perfectly and fold up in your flight bag easily. Ideally, get some that are light coloured on the outside so they reflect that radiation back out and don't cook your windows.

Airbus has attributed a cracked A320 cockpit window to the use of an aftermarket sunshade, prompting restrictions on non-certified equipment. Conversely, pilots argue the damage resulted from a pre-existing failure in the window heating system rather than the sunshade alone.

Airbus won't supply decent window shades, but pilots getting melanomas is totally ok with them...

Pretty sure a terribly bad sunscreen is probably better than constant all day direct sunlight. Choose your poison I guess.

I wear a set of arm sleeves which are UFP 50+ rated (Plus great for late night flying if your chilly), and a high quality face sunscreen.

Benzene is a known human carcinogen

Ergo wearing sunscreen to ward off melanoma is silly at best. Just stop eating seed oils that make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. As mentioned above, there are sunshades on amazon that create the shade you need

The only benzene link to sunscreen I could find was this one:

Which talks about a study and consequent law suits for the presence of benzene contaminants in some brands. Doesn't sound like it's a core ingredient though.
