Didn't Check the Notams

Post by pelmet »

From TSB...

N430BC, an amateur built, corporate registered International Air Services Incorporated Trustee
Lancair IV-P, was being operated on a local flight out of the Kelowna Airport (CYLW), BC, under
visual flight rules, with only the pilot on board.
Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) I2560/26, issued on 2 June 2026, stated that the first 1062 feet of
Runway 16 at CYLW was closed. This NOTAM is in effect until an estimated date of 31 August
2026. The runway portion that was closed was marked with a white X. The aircraft touched down
on the closed portion of Runway 16, and a second later, the nose gear struck a plastic barrier that
was laid on the runway. The barrier was placed to mark the closed section of the runway. The nose
gear collapsed as a result of the impact. The propellor struck the runway and subsequently, the
main landing gear collapsed. The aircraft slid off to the left side of the runway and came to a stop
in the grass. The pilot was able to egress the aircraft and was uninjured. The aircraft was
substantially damaged.
