The interior video shows the slats moving to the full extend position - they must have been close to stalling the aircraft.

PPRuNE thread has a comparison from an earlier flight - speeds and acceleration are much lower for the accident flight.

The report will be interesting to read.

Left the parking brake on?

* After a bit of research it looks like the 787's electric brake actuators have a history of failing to fully release and dragging.

Unknown at this time but typically, it is a miscalculation of actual weight and the aircraft is much heavier than what was calculated. I was on a flight that had a weight miscalculation. I made an addition error and the captain made a fuel upload number error, resulting in us being much heavier than we thought we were for takeoff on a short runway up north on a turboprop. We used a different flap setting and engine power setting for takeoff than we should have and rotated about a hundred feet from the end of the runway.

Lesson learned for that one......write numbers legibly and not in a rushed manner on the W&B sheet. It probably was the equivalent of a 100,000 lb(or more) error in a bigger jet.

I’d say the brakes were partially on. The reduced friction of the dry ground probably let it get airborne.

It is an interesting picture. But those marks do not really look like the wheels of a typical airliner in terms of spacing for each pair. But maybe others could comment.

I wonder if the 787 has any light or warning message to let you know if the brakes are being applied. It's such an insidious fault if the only way to notice a stuck brake is by your memory of normal acceleration rate.

When you think about it it's actually crazy not to have a master caution if the brakes are on at all while the thrust levers are forward of idle. I can't think of any situation where that would be normal other than static run ups or ice shedding procedures.

This was also my first thought.

However several graphics on PPRuNe show nearly identical acceleration until just past the halfway point of the ground roll - then the accident aircraft shows significantly lower acceleration. I'd guess they hadn't reached Vr when crossing the end of the runway.

The interior video looks more like an A340 take-off than a twin.

He's wrong about Air India 171 - normal take-off. Destroys his credibility imho.

I'm not familiar with 787 systems - perhaps someone who flies the 787 can comment.
