Contracting AME Services
As a young licenced AME I would like to contract AME services to a smaller outfits. As a contractor under an AMO, who ultimately holds responsibility for certifying maintenance?? Without an ACA in an AMO you are only contracting your labor to the outfit. Anyway what I really want to know about is liability insurance as an AME?? Anybody have any experience?
Insurance
The operator carries insurance, I have never seen an individual engineer carry liability insurance for the aircraft even when contracting.
Insuring your self and your tools etc. is a good idea, be sure you are covered for unscheduled air operations.
The responsibility for releasing the aircraft continues to be your responsibility to an extent, but the likely hood of getting sued is not that great.
You know how justice works. you find the guy with the money and you try to take it from him.
Normally engineers don't fall into the money worth sueing for category.

Anyone can contract to a shop. You don't need a licence and you don't need a ACA. If the owner wants to hire you off the stree he can.
To release your work you need a ACA. I know picky picky
I noticed at places like Spar and AirSpray a lot of sheet metal guys were individual contracters but all worked for one guy who contracted them to the co and he did the paper work and the co just paid him. I think the guy had the insurance etc.
