I heard of a similar incident pulled off by an AC crew in Regina about 6 years ago. They clipped a couple of rwy lights with the wing of an A-320, then proceeded to the gate and walked off the aircraft hoping not to get nabbed, or else to stunned to know they had done it. To the best of my knowledge the dolts are still flying for AC - no muss, no fuss - thats how ya do it at the peoples airline.
I'm givin er all she's got..
Interesting that it does not appear in the TSB data base (perhaps I missed it). The airport Manager, for one, would have reported the damage to the lights and the TSB then would have done an investigation.....swede wrote:I'm glad you liked it, nonetheless it happened - with little fanfare.

Canadian Airlines International(CAI) had an incident in CYHZ on approach to 06 a few years back.

Good point. It can, like the Air Canada DC-9 in Charlottetown. I've heard it mentioned here about the comparison between this and the Jetsgo YYC incident. The reason Jetsgo was dumped is that unlike WestJet in YHZ or Air Canada in YYG, they went scooting accross the grass and took off again. I know as I was right behind them and saw the plane 10 min later.I think I recall an incident similar to that one but it was a different company. Again, this can happen to anybody. No company is excluded from mishaps.
Very unlike the 737 (and I suspect the DC-9, which I saw next day) who didn't realize there was a strike till at the gate.
Not that I am defending the jetsgo thing but the decision to do a go around would have happened before they entered the grass/snow/rwy sign. In other words they didn't leave the runway, wait for a minute or two then decide to hit the go buttons.
The Westjet thing and the jetsgo thing do have something in common, they were both approaches in poor visibility. The Jetsgo crew didn't have centre line lighting. I haven't flown into YHZ for some time but is there centre line lighting on 14?
Main thing is no one was hurt. Who cares if some metal got bent.

So let me see... you think WestJet will up and fire these guys, then sue them right? I personally think they're smart enough to handle this in a civilized manner... and avoid making pilots run, not walk, to a union for protection. I'm willing to bet a bunch on it.
No reputable company is going to fire the pilots. As for suing them, you're in the wrong country that's not going to happen nor should it. The pilot unions have fought long and hard to prevent this from happening in the western world.WJ700 wrote:pilotbzh wrote:I just hope the pilots will be covered by a good lawer...They probably would love beeing part of a union now.....

You might see a class action lawsuit against WJ by some ambulance chasing lawyer but that will be the extent of it.
