You know, it's probably cheaper in the long run and definitely much more fun to go west for this.... here are some examples:

Air-Hart in Kelowna: C172XP $232dual/$182PIC; C180 $255dual/$205PIC

Ocean Air Victoria: C180 $275 dual/ $230 PIC

I paid $200 dual and $150 PIC for the 172 at Parallel.

And if you're so keen on staying in ontario: Elmhirst vacation air has a PA-12 for something like $180/hr.

so, say..... if you went to air-hart, that $25560 could get you 133.6 hours (25 dual) Or a savings of about $6100.

Or you could buy your own small float plane and fly four hundred hours for $20,000.

Then sell it and get back your origional investment to buy it.

Yeh, it's hard to beat a J3 on floats for pure fun at a reasonable cost.

That is why I'm building one now, to have fun with. :smt003

And once again, for the purpose of getting float plane experience, a float plane is a float plane and it is the time spent flying one that counts.

Although I'm certainly not on the market, COPA's "Canadian plane trade" seems to me like a good place to look.

There's a 10% share of a maule M5 for sale in there right now.....$7000. Might be what you're looking for (at least it would have been for me).

Thants a lot of dual time.

I have heard that companies are looking for PIC on floats. Condsider looking into a share in an aircraft. A student of mine paid something like $1300.00 for as much time as she could fly pluse the cost of gas. Keep in mind though she was flying a C150 on floats not the best but it was something.

Something eles to look into.

For the purpose of building time and experience, a float plane is a float plane.

Ft langley air has both a C180 and PA18 on floats. Great place. Good prices and Dave is a blast!

IIRC the cub was 180/hr PIC and the 180 was 225 or thereabouts.

I'd seriously consider coming west. Year round float training and some interesting points to learn on the coast!

As always pick your poison :) I remember hearing of someone selling insanely cheap block time on a PA12..... anyone know about it?

Lodging can be found for around $1000 a month in Victoria. On average about 3 weeks to a month for every 50hrs.

The Victoria Flying club has several posts up on the board for a room, furnished and in the airport area for $500 and below. Very popular for short term students...

CL Guy:

That is a very good deal.

To bad you have hard water for so many months.

Ever thought of sending the thing out here where the water is soft all year round?

Actually Cat, we have these aluminium things with flat bottoms that we put on them for real hard water. It makes life lots better and we don't have to worry about those long ferry flights!!!!

You should come out here and once again experience what it is like to land on hard water because you have probably forgotten how much fun it can be. Especially when there is lots of softer water on top of the hard water!!!

Cheers!

" Especially when there is lots of softer water on top of the hard water!!! "

Well I might be a few years away from that stuff you describe, but I still remember you should not stop on that soft water on top of the hard water...why if I recollect right we used to make a high speed pass with the skis on the snow and then do a circuit and look down to see if there was any soft water on top of the hard water...He, He, He...

And no, I don't miss it when I can gaze out my living room window all winter and watch the float planes take off and land on the lake below my house. :smt003

But seriously you guys have a real good deal with that Super Cruiser, one of Pipers finest.

Your right, it's a beaut! We had it recovered about a year ago and the engine is fairly low time. A great little performer and cheaper to go fishing in than my boat is!

Great Cl....

And maybe we should give some help to a couple of guys who do float work out here in Canadas Garden of Eden?

I' can recommend Robin in Nelson and Dave in Victoria, I think guys like you and Driving Drizzle and me need to help the young uns trying to give good instruction, fu.k it won't cost us anything.

You still trust my judgement in the flying game don't you?
