MU 2s

Post by kilpicki »

I was previously reading the threads about Nav Airs Mu 2s accident out of Terrace and was wondering how many here remember when B.C.Tel and B.C. Hydro ran MU 2s?

I believe the registrations were TEL but may be confusing Hydros HYD with their C550.

Out of the Atlantic Aviation hangar in YVR.

I remember hearing about them in their MU2s.
And as I recall they had a double flameout going in there one day but got it down dead stick. I believe that is going well back into the 70's.

I heard of a double flame out on a Commander with Garrets.

Maybe we could start a double flame out thread.

Right, then, matey...

Navair had an MU2 double flameout in about winter of '85 over Enderby area. Ice ingestion, I believe before ice detectors or auto ignition. They finally got them relit and landed in Kelowna after being vectored down mountainous valleys by a controller who was intimately familiar with the terrain. That was C-FROM and became famous in controller circles and the tapes are used in controller training.

Next?

BC Tel had Citations, the original Pretend-a-jet, and BC Hydro had an MU-2 CF-AMP, one of the cooler registrations I recall.

AMP yes that was the Hydro reg, thanks.

B.C.Tel had at one time the highest time per yr Citations in the fleet.

Say what you will about the Citation but for your dollar they are good machines.

you must keep in mind that the citation wasnt built to compete against the Lear, but against the King Air which from what I understand it will beat under almost all conditions...
