i am an instructor in guelph looking to make the leap to bush flying. my friends in the bush tell me i have it cushy; days off, duty times kept track of,
no loading moose and such, a comfy bed at night. is the bush life hard? my friends say in the summer they get no sleep and are run off their feet. do you guys think they work for a bad operator or is this typical of life as a bush pilot? i love my sleep, should i kiss it goodbye?
No,you don't really need to work for shady operators to feel a bit run down by the time October comes around.
It's totally doable, since, well, a lot of us do it. But after 20+ legs a day one does get tired. Especially if it's short trips and lots of f.ckin' around loading and unloading, docking, sailing, swearing at the wind...but that's all part of the "romance"!
It's all good, and I wouldn't trade it for anything just yet. The good days outnumber the bad. And the feeling you get just as the float lifts smoothly out of the glass, arcing gently towrds the sunrise is a feeling not easily duplicated.
All the best, I hope you'll like it. Bush flying is not for everyone, but if you don't mind working hard, and flying lots...you'll get by.
After seeing the title of the thread I though George Dubya had something against instructors!

"The ability to ditch an airplane in the Hudson does not qualify a pilot for a pay raise. The ability to get the pilots, with this ability, to work for 30% or 40% pay cuts qualifies those in management for millions in bonuses."
i put my mp3 player earphones under my headset all summer while flying the beaver and i think i did some real damage to my ears. i had to have the volume at max to hear the music over the sound of the engine. "
I don't quite understand what you have been saying here, one moment you are falling asleep flying a Beaver and the next you are an instructor in Guelph wanting to be a bush pilot, or am I missing something here?

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.
climb a tree, . cat. you should know who this is.
you don't always have to be right, ., or be the moral authority. what happened to the 'best kind' newf in ya?
