Cathay study discussion group

Post by jetav8r »

Hi all,

I'm thinking of setting up a Cathay interview discussion study group once a week at my place for about 10 people. We can discuss, aerodynamics, systems, weather etc. I figure 10 heads are better than one. You don't need to have an interview with Cathay to join but you never know. Some conditions on joining the group will have to apply ie minimum time 3000 hours +, 500 jet or multi turbine time, etc. Any thought?

Sounds like NerdStock! I know a lot of guys with 2000ish hours and no turbine or jet that are at Cathay. Gotta love it. A 3000 hour requirement to talk about an airline with a 1000 hour requirement!!

I just get a kick out of the 3000 hour requirement to talk about an airline that has a 1000 hour requirement. You must admit, that is a little goofy!!

Why not discuss the living conditions in Hong Kong as well. If you have asthma, I reccomend you stay away.

Cheers

Don't think they've been hiring guys with less than 3500 hours lately. Could be wrong off course. I've been wrong before

Just tell their management they don't need to be trying to fill your brains with all that useless info that is completely irrelevent and go out for beer and wings instead!

A new pilot with 3000 hours? How much of that is in the circuit?

Thanks for the responses. I thought it may have been a good idea, even to get people together on a social basis and learn something extra about aviation at the same time, but I guess not.

I think its a great idea!
Heres a guy/girl with the right attitude and the obvious focus and direction to attain their goal.
I have trouble with this site as so many of you take the time to write incredulous garbage.
I wish the ones like jetav9r great success, and to the rest of you "pilots"? I hope to never see you in the flight deck.

fly it like you own it.

jetav8r, if you are really interested in Cathay your study group is a good idea. And the 3000 hour mark isn't to far off the mark. The posted requirements are well below that, but the majority of candidates that make it to the interview stage have a fair bit of time and usually turbine/Jet time. Spend a fair bit of time on 'Handling The Big Jets', and on the prune site for the gouge. You are right though, the study group will help in explaining your answers so they are easily understood. You may not make it to Cathay but the knowledge and experience will certainly help your career (I am aware that a lot of there questions are not relevant but many encompass information that is gooD to know).

not a bad idea, even though it is not my thing personally...
i think it's a good idea as i know one of the questions asked at my buddy's interview was the exact height of the tropopause, among many other things that he and i had long forgotten...

PS: iwillflyajet, how many bars does your guy in your avatar really need to fly that surly beast? nerdstock, eh?
