Cheers Ed - miss ya already

Post by hanrahan »

Since the other topics seem to be focusing on the politics and technicalities of this horrible incident, which is necessary and just, I thought I'd start one just for Ed. Perhaps it will be moved to the wall at a later date, which would be nice. I'd just rather have a place to say and to read how people felt about such a wonderful person unclouded by anything else.

With that said.......

Thank you for being in my life. Thank you for the laughs, the day of the sugar packs, and for always laughing at me when I was doing somthing stupid. Like I posted in another forum (and maybe heaven has the internet, or at least avcanada) it's been so long since I've talked to you, but I value the truely goofy moments and beers that we shared. I wish I could be at your funeral, but know that in my heart I am remembering you always.

Cheers my friend.

Good point, funny enough my wife and I were swapping Ed-stories around the dinner table the last few nights, specially since he was going to be over for dinner tonight here somewhere Ontario…

My wife reminded me of the night she found him outside the hangar smoking a cigarette, he was just 18 then. She said “you know Nick knows you smoke eh…..” “Oh shit, he smiled embarrassed….. you think so?” She said “yeah I know so”.
I never said anything, and Ed never smoked in front of me, he knew I would give him royal shit. Years later he dropped a pack of cigarettes in front of me, we were having a bite at the south terminal. He looked like a deer caught in the headlights, he looked at me, saw my big smile, nothing was said he just smiled back at me.

Ed had an old fashion sense of respect, something very rare.

He was a tea drinker amongst coffee drinkers.
He was outstanding in so many ways.

Love Ya Buddy

Where do I start when talking about Ed?

All I can really say is:
Thank you for all the experiences we shared - not only during the hundreds of hours we spent in the cockpit together, but also the tens of thousands of hours we shared hanging out. You were a great pilot and mentor, but most importantly, you were an amazing friend - and I thank you.
