WFP and UN or Aid Pilots
Hello,
I really want to get into flying aid missions around the world. I have had the hardest time finding organizations that hire or use voluenteer pilots. I really would like to get into flying aid missions, and would do it as a voluenteer. Does anyone have any information about who to contact about this or have any ideas? Thanks

And if you're gonna go and scam a Vicar for a note saying you've attended mass for the last X years, you can go to hell!.Have some Bible college training (after all, you are interested in missionary service).
(MAF has flexible education requirements for mature candidates who have a demonstrated history of Christian service in their local church, and have a demonstrated commitment to a generally-accepted Christian lifestyle as attested by other believers).
If you're religious there are quite a few organizations, the large ones including Mission Aviation Fellowship/New Tribes Mission/AIM Air/JAARS
The missionary pilots raise their own support and have to have an AME or US A&P mechanic license because they do their own maintenance in the field. I think the most predominant planes they fly are Cessna206s' but there's also Twotters/Caravans etc out there.
Those guys aren't doing it to build time towards the majors, many of them see the mission field as their calling in life. The mininmum they ask for is 4 years.
I only know of one secular company doing humanitarian aid, Air Serv based out of Virginia. I think they do a lot of UN contracts and have a cool fleet of planes. Do a search on this forum for the thread on them.
Hope all that's accurate, I've done quite a bit of research on it and spent some of my childhood in Africa while my parents were doing aid work.
I'm hoping for Air Serv myself down the line. pm me if ya want,

I went through some of the first stages for the interview process of MAF. They are an excellent company and they have a very good reputation in the industry for missionary work.
It requires a tremendous amount of committment, and as was mentionned, they don't want people who are there to simply "build time."
If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I ended up taking an offer elsewhere, but I may return to the idea of working for MAF later on in my career.
