float driver shortage?
where, if it exists at all, is the often mentioned float driver shortage?
is supply really not meeting demand in some areas?

Re: float driver shortage?
Not a "float driver shortage", it's an "hourly insurance requirments shortage"coffeebreak wrote:where, if it exists at all, is the often mentioned float driver shortage?

definitley as mentioned, a shortage of "experienced" float drivers. will operators complaining loud/long enough to insurance companies lower the mins? remains to be seen. we live in a society where everyone wants to sue everyone and anyone.
my first two years in the biz were seasonal, and the last 5 years were fulltime with floats in summer, wheel-skis in winter. i consider myself lucky. wouldn't it be a perfect world where after being at my new job a year or more, ask for a leave of absence, (assuming there is in fact an "experienced bush driver" shortage) and ask for some good quid and absolutely no "joe-boy"
tasks involved. that's the selfih side of me talking.
on a serious note, i'd like the insurance companies to pull their heads out of their asses and get real with the minimums. yes, float flying can kill the inexperienced but so can driving a car. it aint rocket-science folks, just common sense. scare yourself once in awhile, just don't repeat your mistakes and try not to scare anyone else

I believe this too, however, i've never heard of an operator not finding someone to fly, If an operator has a problem finding or keeping someone, it's probally because they dont pay well enough, or have shitty living conditions. As long as guys keep moving up the ranks, there'll be enough guys to fill the need. I dont think there are many 'new' operations starting up, requiring float drivers, probally the reverse of that with the way the loonie/tourist business is going.definitley as mentioned, a shortage of "experienced" float drivers
