I saw a preview of it in the Science Centre's Omnimax theatre two weeks ago.

Looks to be exciting, but with a large helping of the usual US Military bullshit. Plus, fighter pukes are always legends-in-their-own-minds, wherever they're from! :P

(I like Americans, travel there a lot, and am pro-military.)

What an odd film to be playing in Toronto, which is probably the Canadian center of leftist/pacifist/anti-USA sentiment.

I wasn't even aware that Canada still had any fighter pilots. I'm not sure why we would, since I understand that:

1) Canadian aircraft aren't allowed to hurt anyone, and

2) Canada cannot deploy our F-18's, and

3) Canada is incapable of in-flight refuelling our F-18's

4) Canada's F-18 have obsolete electronics, incapable of communicating with our allies, which makes them a liability on the battlefield.

Pretty sad, given our history ... I'll bet darned few Canadian aviation enthusiasts here could even name 3 "ace" Canadian fighter pilots, which is pretty sad.

Trudeau won, it would seem.

Great job Mitch!

I was going to post a similar list, but you beat me to it.

Hedley: you should also be aware that in Canada (actually, in most commonwealth air forces) the term "high scorer" is used, not "ace".

You may be interested to know, that there are some who keep the memory of these people very much alive. Many years ago when I was in the Air Cadets; I attended the Senior Leaders course in Cold Lake. All of the units within the course were named after these Canadian high-scoring pilots. We had to know the in-depth biographys of the person who both our flight and squadron were named after. For example, I was in McLeod flight, Bishop squadron - and therefore learned all about these two pilots.

Peter Blatchford knocked one of his victories down by ramming it. It was an Italian biplane during the one and only raid that Mr. Mussolini's people carried out against England during the BofB.

Billy Barker won his VC for getting five Germans after he was attacked by an entire enemy fighter wing (50ish against 1).

2 of Raymond Collishaw's victories were actually Communist aircraft downed during the western intervention in Russia in 1919.

I guess I know a fair bit about this stuff for a leftist/pacifist/anti-USA Torontonian. Why dont you stop slagging your country, or parts of it, if you are such a goddam nationalist.

goddam nationalist
Correction: That's "goddamned nationalist", if you please.

Having lived more years than I really want to admit to in Toronto, I think I can fairly say that if Canada ever has an enema, Toronto is where they should stick the tube in

Goodness me, an ultra-conservative who has actually finished grade 10. If only your political outlook were as sophisticated as your grammar skills.

As for the enema crack (no pun intended), please feel free to move. Please.

I went and saw the film a couple of weekends ago.

I quite liked it, a lot of the explanations were simplified of course, but there is some amazing air-to-air footage and camera work. Great eye candy and well worth seeing on IMAX.

Yes, the air-to-air footage is very good. It's designed to appeal to non-pilots, but I thought it was well done just the same.

Dude you're an idiot.

1. Yes we can hurt people...eg Kosovo air campaign

2. Yes we can deploy our F-18s...same example

3. CF-18s can and always have been able to air to air refuel, from Canadian C-130s or a multitude of other tankers.

4. Canada's CF-18s have been and are still being upgraded with new radars and modern avionics, including anti-jam radios and data link.

Maybe you should have some remote idea what you're talking about before you post. And your comment about aces has already been addressed....tool
