Instructing is not actually a 'fake' job. It provides some form of income (see the regency thread for the real non-paying job's industry reception)
If Westpoint is going to give you a job when you finish... cool the next few weeks while you are getting done can realistically be considered your job interview. Dress and act the part, and learn to be prompt and prepared.
It's hours in the book, and whike command of a cherokee, or what ever they are using isn't concored time, its PIC which reduces the time you will have to build for an ATPL. This is something really painful for FO's who must sit and listen to me or King Air Guy natter away for 2600 hours. You can reduce that by instructing for a year.
It is also a truism that it is always easier to get a job when you have a job. WHy not take one that is at a place you know? You'll have lots of time to be overwhelmed and alienated later in your career.
