Well, there are way more instructors than instructor jobs, but there are way more real pilots than real flying jobs - to use your terminology.

Has anyone recently done an instructor rating with Westpoint and been hired? If so then it sounds like a good idea to me. If not then why would you do the same?

How many people are doing their instructor rating with Westpoint right now? How do you stack up against them? If you get higher marks, are more personable, fly better and are better looking than them, great. If not look at how many instructors get hired a year and how many people are competing for those spots.

Instructing is definitely the most straighforward step. Your chances of getting a real job flying are probably excruciatingly inconsiderable. And instructing at Westpoint is less of a dead end than most instructing positions.

Instructing is not actually a 'fake' job. It provides some form of income (see the regency thread for the real non-paying job's industry reception)

If Westpoint is going to give you a job when you finish... cool the next few weeks while you are getting done can realistically be considered your job interview. Dress and act the part, and learn to be prompt and prepared.

It's hours in the book, and whike command of a cherokee, or what ever they are using isn't concored time, its PIC which reduces the time you will have to build for an ATPL. This is something really painful for FO's who must sit and listen to me or King Air Guy natter away for 2600 hours. You can reduce that by instructing for a year.

It is also a truism that it is always easier to get a job when you have a job. WHy not take one that is at a place you know? You'll have lots of time to be overwhelmed and alienated later in your career.

If you take that kind of attitude to an instructing position (non-REAL flying job) then you should have your ass kicked. If you don't want to be there it is going to show in the quality of your instruction. If I was going to Instruct you on your class 4 and I heard you talking like that I would not only kick your ass but I would do my best to see that you never got your instructor rating as long as I was alive.

There are many people who get into instructing to build time. That's one thing. The seconed you forget that your flying that's a who other thing

That's right. Real Job. I got a flying job flying ATR-42 in EU after 300 TT. I got sick of who do you know and the people like JACKASS. There is a real jobs after you get your CPL. I'd never come back if I could.

Cheers

yah, I'm just brakin ball's. Hell its been suggested here that one can trade his girlfriend for a real flying job. That is if you have given her the right type of training.

Do whatever you can to get a real job. NewCPL (constantly Padding Logbook) didn't have the girlfriend and really wanted the job. He got on his knees he sucked it up (pun not intended) and look where he is now.

Yeah! I agree but you have to admitt that sucking it up in the EU is not that hard...You either have a job or you don't!

I have a 2 friends here that were disapointed not getting on the '37. They both got regional jet work.

I hope they sucked it up for when the better days show up!
