Slave air?

Post by Rowdy »

Alrighty, curious as to the usual.. if you don't want to post it here.. pm me.

working conditions, ins and outs.. what it's like in slave lake.

What are the chances of actually getting a flying spot after working the fuel services for them?

Cheers,
Rowdy

Based on the job desription there's no way I'd do that job for less than $26 an hour. It looks like they're hoping to exploit someone with dreams of flying.

They are actually a good company and have never exploited anyone from what I can remember. There are at least 5 or 6 people who started out as fuellers and are now captains and FOs on the BE20 making decent coin with a great schedule. No one has had to buy ppcs or sign bonds and turnover is actually very low. I think for someone with low time this would definitely be a job to seriously consider.

 $26.00/hr ---I'm guessing you just took a big ol'hoot off your crack pipe before you dreamed that one up.We are talking about pumping gas here not saving the world. There are a lot of King Air captains flying around this country who make significantly less than $26.00/hr and lots of copilots and Ho drivers who would happily chew their own left nut off to make $14.50.As far as the company goes I am told they fly first class machines, get above average pay and have a pretty decent schedule.

Never been with a better company or had a better time with a group of Medevac Pilots and Flight Paramedics.

That was almost 3-yrs ago. Most of the people I knew have left for Airline Ops. Hope it is still run the same way I remember it.

You'd be lucky to hook up with this company.

Trust me.

I figured they were a decent company. I popped in last year on my road trip and there was nothing going on. Everyone apparently wanted to stick around.

Looks to be right up my alley.. what with all the fueling/mechanical knowdledge I've pulled down now

Two of the best guys I know in this crazy business are with this company, and have been for a while (though I hear one has moved on up). Any company that can keep a pilot for more than 3 years is doing something right.

ob Description:
In charge of fuelling department for summer season. Require mature
individual
with mechanical knowledge. Prefer some fueling and truck driving
experience and able to assume a great deal of responsibility. Position
is very busy during fire season. This is not a flying position but
candidate will be considered for a flying position when one becomes
available. No phone calls please.

I've bolded all the reasons I made my initial post. It's good that people seem to like this company. But, from my experience, from someone with fuelling and truck driving experience, I'd never move to Slave Lake for $14.50 an hour.

When I was flying there in 2002/2003 on the BE20, the fueler was making more per week than I was. He would get call-outs all the time plus there were the Air-Tankers on base which gave him alot of overtime.
Ask them about their pay-structure for extra fueling after hours, and see if you get any "cut" (ie. a penny/ltr) of fuel that you sell.
Most of the ramp guys I knew are all flying on the BE20 now.

If somebody want to live decently with planes; don't aspire to fly them, fuel them up!
