Frontier to be First American Low Cost Carrier to Serve Canada With New Flights to Calgary
Frontier to Connect the Canadian Rockies to Top US Destinations and the
Beaches of Mexico With Low-Fares, Excellent Service
DENVER, March 2 /CNW/ -- Frontier Airlines (Nasdaq: FRNT)
will begin new service between its Denver International Airport (DEN) hub and Calgary International Airport (YYC) in Alberta, Canada beginning May 25, 2006.
The two daily non-stops between Denver and Calgary will utilize Frontier's
JetExpress service operated by Horizon Air. The new service will also offer convenient connections to 38 Frontier cities throughout the US including Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Orlando and Washington D.C., as well five Mexican resorts including Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Mazatlan and Cozumel.
The new service will be the first US low cost carrier (LCC) flights into
Canada and Frontier's second international destination, after Mexico.
Frontier began service to its first international destination, Cancun, Mexico,
in December 2002 and in the past three years grew the service to include seven Mexican resorts.
"Frontier is proud to be the first American low cost carrier to fly to
Canada, and we are confident that Calgary, which has long been underserved for low fares and excellent service to the US, will fast become a top market for Frontier," said Jeff Potter, president and CEO of Frontier. "We believe that Calgary, which has solidified its position as one of the primary economic drivers of the Canadian economy, is the ideal first Canadian destination for us, given its strong parallels to our home town of Denver and a common bond in the strength of the oil and gas industries in both communities. And of course, we can now boast our second set of Rocky Mountains, which enables us to deliver to our passengers some of the most breath-taking scenery in North
America."
"Frontier Airlines has recognized that Calgary is a prime corporate
headquarters location and Canada's energy capital," said Mayor Dave
Bronconnier. "I would like to welcome Frontier to Calgary and congratulate them on bringing their service to our city".
"The addition of Frontier Airlines to the Calgary market offers another
great choice for travelers," said Julien De Schutter, Vice President of
Airport Marketing. "As Canada's first US low cost carrier destination, we are very pleased that Frontier has selected Calgary to be a part of their growing network."
Frontier is celebrating the long awaited announcement of its first
Canadian destination with simultaneous press conferences in Calgary and
Denver. The Calgary press conference will feature the Deputy Mayor of
Calgary, Gord Lowe, welcoming Frontier with a traditional "white hat welcome," designating Frontier as honorary Calgary citizens for life. In addition, attendees will hear from Clark Grue, Vice President of Investment and Trade Development, Calgary Economic Development; US Commercial Consul, Terri Sorji; and the Chairman of the Board of the Calgary Airport Authority, Peter Wallis.
Denver will welcome the start of the new Calgary service with a press
conference featuring Tom Clark, President of the Metro Denver Economic
Development Council, Richard Scharf, President of the Denver Metro Convention and Visitor's Bureau and Canadian Consul, Marc Boucher.

Why does everyone jump up and yell horray everytime an American carrier comes to Canada. What is wrong with Canadian carriers?
I have flown across Canada on Air Canada. I have flown across the USA on Amaerican air carriers and I have flown within Canada on Canadian low cost air carriers and in my opinion, Canadian air carriers can hold thier heads high because they all give excellent service.
United sucks, Delta has poor service, American is terrible. I traveled through the dinner hour, through the breakfast hour and through the supper hour on Anerican air lines and all I was offered was peanuts or pretzels. On Air Canada, I was fed an excellent meal on the red eye fron Calgary to Halifax. I was fed an excellent afternoon meal on Air Canada when the Delta flight I was supposed to be on broke so they simply dumped everyone. I traveled first class on Northwest from Fort Lauderdale to Detroit and then thru Minneapolis to Calgary and all we ever got were peanuts and pretzels.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

The flights will be apparantly done through a regional affiliate of Frontier, Horizon Air, with CRJ-700's. Frontier and Westjet also appear to in talks for a code share as well, so watch that.

Mr. Beddoe also welcomed Frontier Airlines Inc., the Denver-based low-cost carrier, to the Canadian skies. Frontier is expected to confirm as early as tomorrow that it will soon start Denver-Calgary service, pitting it against Elk Grove, Ill.-based UAL Inc.'s United Airlines Inc. and UAL's regional partner, SkyWest Inc. Frontier could become a WestJet partner once the Calgary airline boots up its new reservations system next year to allow for strategic alliances. United Airlines and Air Canada are members of the Star Alliance.
