Where to go? India or China

I need help, ive got my vacation coming up soon and im trying to decide where to travel to. Ive decide i want to go to either india or mainland china. Im looking to go near beaches and sight see. If you've been to either can you recommend places to see and things to do. Im not really intrested in hotel advice cause i plan on staying in hostels through out the trip. If you know of any good hostels let me know.

Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing are great cities... If you read travellers reports you'll see India is a dump, the only decent place is Goa.

I would suggest india, but only because i was born there. Now I only lived there till i was 8 yrs old, so I'm sure a lot has changed since I left. If you're looking at beach resorts, Goa is supposed to be beautiful.

Thanks for the replies, Ive been reading up quite a bit in the LP website for a while and the more and more I read about India the more intresting it sounds. Seems like there are some cool things to do there. Goa is on the top of my list as is the Lakshadweep islands. Im not looking to stay in any resort place at all rather some kind of little hut off the beach.
