Got an interview with them comming up. Any info on the company would be appreciated. Both pros and cons would be helpful.
Great company, usually great pilots, and a great way to get some good time. I think their old ops guy left, he was really dedicated to the operation, but went on to brighter things. Apparently its not the same place, but for four months how can one go wrong. They'll set you free on your skymaster, behave yourself when aloft and you'll have a great summer while coming away with some new friends.
The CP can be a bit of a goon, he speaks with a British accent, but isn't British...help him find his pants and you're sitting pretty.
Good luck and have fun,
BM

Can someone post the name or initials of the CP that speaks with the British accent? PM me if you wish. I think I may know him from way back when. Thanks.
"Yeah. There is a problem. You...because you're dangerous. You're dangerous and foolish - and that makes you dangerous! Now, let's cut the...crap. We've got a plane to fly. Let's try to be on time, okay?"

The first year I worked at Hicks we got $425 a week plus 4% vacation pay ($17 a week). We were also paid $10 an hour flight pay that was paid twice during the contract (halfway through and at the end). This was only paid if you stayed to the halfway point and the end.
The second year it was $475 as week plus 4% vacation pay ($19 a week). The flight pay went up to $15 an hour, again, paid twice during the contract.
These numbers may all be obsolete as there is new management.
Good luck to all those with interviews. It was a great place to work!

"The ability to ditch an airplane in the Hudson does not qualify a pilot for a pay raise. The ability to get the pilots, with this ability, to work for 30% or 40% pay cuts qualifies those in management for millions in bonuses."
Ohhhhh! I must have hit a nerve somewhere. My post has been deleted! Someone got tickled by the truth. So much for freedom of speech, and all I did was to put the truth out here - nothing rude or derogatory, just the facts as I had heard them. Funny how in this business there is much that is unfair, but not many dare to speak out. Hmm something to think about eh?

I'm sick of people bitching on this website! I know what you're getting at about the female employee... but Hicks made a mistake last year and 6 of the 8 new hires had less than 100MPIC.Well if I put it up here again it will just get deleted. However if you ever happen to be in CYKZ (Buttonville) ask around if there is any chance of getting around the 100 multi requirement for Kicks.
It's a good place to work and the pay isn't bad (425 a week +10$ per flight hour). I only worked there for one season. Bases were Timmins (1 337 pilot), Sudbury (2), Chapleau (2) Geraldon (4), Dryden(remaining), You can be expected to be based other places for a couple days to a couple weeks (Pickle Lake, Red Lake, Kenora, Armstrong etc) depending on the hot spots. They put you up and pay you a perdiem when you're away. CP is a good guy as well as all the bird-dog pilots!
PM me if you have any other questions

It doesn't help when the CP of HL is a moderator on AVCAN. Not sure who deleted your post but it makes you wonder why an innocent threads that mention no names gets snippered and other blatently racist threads by moderators are kept.
On another note is it true that Tindi bought or is buying H/L?

punk
The CP of H&L is NOT a moderator on this forum...
Timone...I bet you're the same guy who started the thread last year about one of the female pilots getting hired on at H&L, and just started up a new user name because we all knew who you were. Your comment was malicious and it was bullshit. Don't pull this free speech crap and you're so oppressed and the truth won't get out...
This industry doesn't give a shit about what you think is fair and this person's career is going very well whether you write crap about inequality or not.....let's face it...sometime's men & women will do whatever it takes to get a head...life's too short to get upset about all of it...especially when you make everyone else look bad...even if they deserve to be there.
YOU are not a victim...go to any 3rd world country & then you can complain about something...until then, keep your bullshit comments & take your free speech & shove it up your ass

hmmm. i too know this certain someone who MAY have used their assets and the associated weakness of someone who should have known better to advance one's cause. Unfortunaltely, this has set the plight of a certain gender back a few steps in aviation . I would like to believe it did not happen, however, at least one person from each Ontario company i know has heard of this, and the whole "short shorts" incident cannot be overlooked....at least the H&L reputation set out by Sr is still intact... barely. And for some reason, this individual keeps getting ahead, even with the ... oh, i should stop now... it will be deleted if i continue.
and yes, 6 of last year's pilots were under the 100 multi PIC, but MNR has laid down the law.
