I did a private and commercial there. It's a really good school, the staff is very friendly and outgoing. Lots of airplanes, most of them GPS equipped, even the 152's. They have a huge fleet, around 20 planes now. Everything from 152's, 172's, a Piper Warrior, Citabria's, a Travelair and a Seneca soon. Some of the best rates that I've seen at any school. They offer lots of services for their students, and it's a private Runway - which by the way is about 30 feet wide. Seriously!
One problem though is that they are getting too busy for their own good. At the Steinbach base anyway. I'm not trying to knock them, but I really wouldn't encourage you to train there during the middle of the summer - July, and the first half of August, as there are Air Cadets training there.
There can be 4 or 5 planes in a circuit at times. And there is only one taxiway, at the threshold of one of the runways. Makes it difficult to backtrack and land sometimes.
If you want to be an instructor, there is very good opportunity there.
I'm not sure about doing the MultiIFR there. Although I don't think it would be a bad choice, Perimeter might be better. It's kind of a toss-up. Each place has their pros and cons.
All in all though, a GREAT school. You WILL get what you paid for.
Adam Penner and the crew are a standup bunch of people.

You're either in, or you're in the way!

Hi,
I was trained there from PPL to IATRA (inclusive of Multi IFR). The CFI there was great when I was in Steinbach, started in Summer. As previously said, it is very busy at SteinBach South "International", as far as I recall, normally 4 aircraft in the circuit is nothing. There is once all 10 - 12 aircraft all coming back at once due to bad weather, inclusive of the TravelAir. They are an bunch of awesome guys at Harvs Air.
If you want to do Multi IFR, best to do it in YAV. It is kinda scary to do the precision landing on TravelAir in Steinbach South. BTW, why do you want to have experience? They do offer one of the best rates in Canada, and are innovative in their training.
Cheers

did the PPL and most of my CPL time building there. really fair people, lots of students, but it gets real hard to book airplanes once the cadets get there.
had some good times, met a lot of friends i still have.
i recommend it, if you can handle living in a sauna.

I am new to this thread, i did my ppl and cpl at Harv's Air and really enjoyed it. It really is the mom and pops flying school where the owners are on site and helping you along the way. The roster of instructors are all solid and fun people. The aircraft are easy to book, sometimes at the busiest of times there is a squeeze but they are buying more and more planes as they get busier. I worked there for a while and i will attest if you show up and want to fly...you will be able to. There are always spots and planes that open up. I have seen a range of students from the slow goers to the determined fly 5 hrs a day types. Both can fly at their own pace. The uncontrolled a/s so close or under the win tca is great. Don’t believe the all the cadet stories on here, trust me its not a problem. They are all out of the sky in the mid afternoon and summer evenings in Southern Manitoba are long! and its nice to fly in the evening isnt it?? I know that the instructors there made a point of keeping their regulars happy while the cadets were around. I dont think a busy circuit is a bad thing.....where i fly now is insane busy...so it will make you ready for that kinda thing. The runway is narrow and there are other things people rant about.....but perhaps your first flying job wont have the 9000 foot runway either. One other thing i must really stress....for you time builders...and i hope the Harvs people wont mind me saying this. From what i know now they are pretty good about such. I will just say i flew very far and long with their plane....with their headsets...no added fees or book of restrictions. At Harv's you will feel like someone is watching your progress....they will be upfront with you....wont suck you dry. You will make a pile of friends and have a blast learning there. ....and no this isnt an add for them...although it kinda sounds like it. They are getting bigger and bigger for just these reasons i say.

I did most of my instruction at harvs...Commercial,Multi-IFR, & Instructor...I'd say GREAT place to do your training EXCEPT for your Multi....As a multi student...your 2nd to the charter...I had quite a number of flights cancell'd on me at the last minute....This REALY annoyed me cuase I was driving almost an hour each way everytime I went to the airport. So...for Multi I would suggest Perimiter in wpg, or Pro-IFR in Vancouver
