Four Point Harnesses
I am just wondering what aircraft don't have four point harnesses?
It seems like the only aircraft that don't have them are smaller planes or light twins. This doesn't make much sense to me since seeing as it 'may' have saved some lives this year.
On another topic does anyone know how to bring this up with TC? I think if it could have saved one life this year it's worth reccomending this change. I would think TC would figure this out anyways and try and make this change.

If there is one sensible and effective idea out of all the carnage that has taken place this year on the west coast, this would be one of them! Take the average Ho' or light twin and take one look at the pathetic inertia reel seat belts right out of the 70's and it becomes only too obvious that four point harnesses could save lives. Head injuries kill, pure and simple, and we need harnesses in these planes that have superior restraining qualities.

What a joke. As I said, go down to your local friendly 703 ramp and see the "shoulder harness" About as good as a one legged man in an ass kicking competition.703.69 No person shall operate an aircraft unless the pilot seat and any seat beside the pilot seat are equipped with a safety belt that includes a shoulder harness.

There are stc's for these harness we have them in our 172'2
and the medics are getting them for the king airs on the bench seats.
I think for the most part it's just a lack of knowledge where to get better equipment. Or if operators know where to get it its an attitude of if it aint broke dont fix it. If it is a big concern ask if they have concidered replacing the harness.

Having walked away from a flipped airplane (forced landing due to engine failure) I vote for the four point harness.

"The ability to ditch an airplane in the Hudson does not qualify a pilot for a pay raise. The ability to get the pilots, with this ability, to work for 30% or 40% pay cuts qualifies those in management for millions in bonuses."
Hey
I read a few years ago that a 3 point is actually better than a four point due to the fact that in the 4 you are more likely to slide out the bottom. This is especially true if you do not have it tightened enough. The 3 point will tighten on its own so you will stay in more often. I guess if you use the 4 properly it is better but it sounded like most people don't.
The only true good belt is the five point.
