How many of you in the market for a new flight bag?
How many of you are thinking of buying a new flight bag? Not a cheapy, but one you'll have for life. And what price point are you looking at?

KAG...I bought a really nice bag stateside a few years ago. It's the perfect bag! Not too big, and not too small. Even has the required stickers on it! NWT polar bear, Boeing's smiling 747, The Q400...you know, all the "pilot" crap! It sits and collects dust. What I use on the A/C is a small backpack. Think of what you fly, and where you'll "stuff" the bag. All the scratchs and dings it'll get....in the north at least...plus, what you will actually need to carry?? Full set of Jepps? Change of gitch? Perhaps a couple dozen condoms? Total waste of bucks...but they do go nice with a sunglass pouch on the belt, and a great big watch!
waste of bucks for the north I agree, but you should see what we have to carry around...Jepps, company manuals (those alone will throw out your back) besides, a nice new bag will go great with my new RJ sticker...
assuming I pass the ride.

I would advise you to wait & see what you need. & what you co-workers use. Up north you need a leatherman, Instructing you need a flight bag that holds your headset & depending on where you work a bag for your teaching aids, & when your doing search & rescue you need a bag for all your crap & survival gear stuff...Get my point...what kinda bag you need depends on your current situation

I know what I need, and I already ordered it - A scotts bag from Scott's leather - big beans, but will last the rest of my career.
I was actually wondering what the need out there is for these type of high end bags, as I'm trying to work a discount for myself and you all by working a referal system with Scotts Leather, and I'm trying to get an idea of the market...

I've had a number of leather flight bags. They don"t seem to stand up as well as the manmade fabric ones. When they rip a seam, you have to find a shoe maker or leather shop that has a big enough leather sewing machine to fix it. My last bag cost $35 at Costco, and outlasted all the leather bags I've had. The woven fabric ones won't however allow for snazzy stickers if you need those.
Badges? We don't need no steenkin badges!

This pack (used on its side briefcase style) pretty popular where I work up North. It has plenty of usable storage and is tough as nails.

I don't think you can actually "buy" one. Certainly, you don't want them to know that you think they are a commodity. (Thinking about it, I guess you probably could buy one at some third world carrier.)KAG wrote:How many of you are thinking of buying a new flight bag? Not a cheapy, but one you'll have for life. Most like to be romanced a bit, you know, dinner, dancing, flowers, jewellery, etc. They spend hours on their feet in the back, so a foot massage "buys" you a lot...
Also, not many pilots want one for life, because the new-hires are generally a bit hotter, albeit inexperienced, but that soon changes.
Price point? I prefer a newer one because they don't expect that much. Those over thirty are prone to playing the manipulation game and their biological clocks are ticking loudly. DO NOT get a divorced one.

Okay, you can get a divorced one, but use the FO's name. Just once.ch135146 wrote: DO NOT get a divorced one.
I am in the market for a new one, not sure yet what I want. The current one has lasted 25 years but is getting pretty tired.KAG wrote:I know what I need, and I already ordered it - A scotts bag from Scott's leather - big beans, but will last the rest of my career.
