Cheapest Instructor Rating in SW Ontario
Hey everyone,
Im planning on doing my FI rating after my commercial...probably start sometime in the summer...Does anyone have any experiences in south western Ontario (Sarnia, Windsor, Chatham area etc...even possibly up lake huron) and doing it at any flight school in this region? Costs of doing it? Im looking for the best price (I wish I was rich!) so if anyone could help me out with some advice or experiences I would be very thankful!
Pete

I realize that I may be biting on the lure, but in case you're serious....
The flight instructor rating is probably the last one you should ever choose on price. (Actually, you probably shouldn't choose any training based on price, but that's another story). In your flight instructor training you'll learn much more than just the TC mandated lessons. You'll learn about instructing methods and style. It's extremely important to choose based on the reputation and quality of the students your eventual instructor has put out.
Unless you don't care about the quality of your own work, you're only interested in instructing as a way to build hours as quickly as possible, and if that's the case - don't even become an instructor. All we need is another assembly line instructor who can't wait to be done with the "miserable, stepping stone" of a job.

Exactly.
Exactly.
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Yeah I thought that would/did come off wrong. Your'e right 5x5 about more FI's who cant wait to build hours and be done with it...a stepping stone (Ive had them). But Ive also had amazing instructors like mcrit who I want to follow in their footsteps, and be a great teacher. Personally, I cant wait to start flying as a living (or part-time). To me, being able to fly for some sort of compensation, well as a younger pilot is all I really want at this point...oppose to renting, and to be able to teach the gift of flying, well I think is amazing and something I would enjoy...no, Im not airline bound...well atleast I dont see it or am driving for it at this time (doesnt appeal to me).
My comment about cheapest...well yeah that was kind of the wrong way to put it. But at the same time, I would be lying if I said I wasnt going to base some part of the decision on it (Im sure Im not the only one). I should have worded it better. So, what I want to know are the avg prices of the rating in SW Ontario from different schools. Why I want to know? Well I know a PPL can be anywhere from 6-8K...well I have no clue what a FI Rating costs...thats all I meant (I guess I shouldnt of put cheapest in the first post). And peoples EXPERIENCES (put in my first post I believe) with any schools in the area in which they did the rating. Yes eventually I will visit the schools I end up choosing from. I got bored, thought Id see what came up on this first.
