Thanks for the updated WJ payscale info, it is good to see they were able to negotiate such a fruitful contract.

While I agree that the 37 isn't comparable to a 340, if I spend 85 hours a month in a flightdeck, I want to be paid the most I can during those 85 hrs. Flying is flying, and when you are up front, it makes no difference (to me anyway) whether there are 14 people in the back or 250 people in the back. Granted the lifestyle of a long haul flyer is day and night from someone who flys within North America only, but some prefer that lifestyle and bid accordingly.

The fact remains that a new hire at AC today has the potential to earn more money, faster than the same new hire at WJ. While the current movement is not sustainable, those able to secure employment at AC during the start of this upturn will be better off than a new hire at WJ (not considering outside effects: bird flu, bin ladin, or fuel prices)

That is how I see things, perhaps it may be shortsighted, but I am open for more enlightenment.

Cheers,

N

Qwert,

I could only wish that I one day maybe have such a choice.

Perhaps one day.

I agree, if your doing 85 hours it would be nice to make the best money possible.
It will take you 20+years to get the left seat of a widebody at AC.
It will take you 10 years to get left seat on a 320 at AC.
At WJA it will take 5-6 years to get left seat on the 737.that puts you in the money sooner.
Now take into account working conditions and time off.You will see that AC is not light years ahead , as you may think.Do you know anyone at AC or WJA?Maybe you could talk to them and get a sacond opinion?

Don't get dragged into this AC vs. WJA crap.It has pretty well died since they got their new contract. They are pilots just like here at AC trying to make a living and support their families. As for the Kool-Aid some people at WJA drink their brand and i can tell you their are guys here that drink the Red Kool-Aid.

Cheers,

What a refreshing post. It's nice to hear from someone who has looked past the "home team" rah-rah and realized that we're all just a bunch of guys (and gals) trying to eke out a living doing a job we love, regardless of whether our tails are painted teal or red. Here's a beer on me: :drinkers:

I work for WJ. I have many, MANY friends who work for AC at all levels of the list (from a 340 Capt down to my best man who's on course right now). I know for a fact that the militants from both companies are a (very small) minority, but they always seem to be the loudest...

Good on ya WF9F! :supz:

Well done. But you forgot the 767 f/o or the 340 f/o at AC that makes the same as your 737 capt in about the same amount of time. You have also taken this info from a historical point of view. WJ's history has been outstanding but is showing signs of slowing down and unless major expansion is planned for the near future, I think you will see it taking longer than 5 years for an upgrade. AC is by no means years ahead but the structure of different equipment and route structure allows for a more satisfactory career if that's what you like. If flying one type your whole career is fine, then I guess there's no need to compare.

I think that that's true in life no matter what issue you're talking about.
