..
I heard that the guy didnt take into account the strong headwind, and then ran out of fuel?? Also heard the landing was super sketch, not that im speaking badly of them, cause ur in a forced landing of course, just what i heard...
Sorry folks, been a little busy. Got the airframe and the floats together into one seamless package late yesterday afternoon
. Man, there's just something about the outside of a floatplane that's good for the inside of a pilot.
Happy_flyer has pretty much got the details down. Trail Flying Club GWQP C177 departed Trail with some 20 gal fuel aboard and set off for Revelstoke 1.2 hrs. On the return flight, they ran out of gas, and piled it in to a local field. Everyone aboard escaped, reports of one passenger grabbing a duffel and running into the bush
but nothing official on that, except the RCMP say their curiosity has been piqued. A/C is a total write-off.
As for the 'headwinds' and inability to go direct, all I can say is there were very light winds as I was flying back from CYKA at about the same time, and the low-level route is about as direct as you're gonna get. Reality is, the pilot departed with barely the reserves alone on board.
One thing I can say for sure, is his PPL instructor obviously did a bang-up job on teaching him how to force. Pun completely intended.
