Canjet pilots and a Union??

hey canjet is great to work for...i have been here for 5 yrs and love it so far. We want the unions for small things like sked rules, etc...not the money. If only management would have listened to our small concerns/requests, we wouldnt have signed for the unions. It's too bad really. We want rules for example not being skedhuled less than 10 days off!! like last summer during the transition period, being drafted on days off....etc I am surprised that we waited for the unions this long since there has been talk about it since CJ 2. We are not out there to bring down the company, nor for the money, but this was our only option really..

I agree with you both (737Mech and Leslie). I'm having a good time here but some tweaking is needed. It'll come all in good time.

I think people are more confused than angry. I don't think anyone wants to leave, but when other operators that supposedly we modelled our pay structure on (hint: WESTJET) get large increases, there's really no choice but to start looking elsewhere while the market is moving. Especially if A. you're a captain watching a brand new hire make more than you or B. an FO watching a brand new hire make more than you, or C. either, watching FO's at other companies make more that both of you. WTF? You can whine or complain, but better just to leave. Many are and more will. Hopefully they can arrest it before the cycle spirals out of control.

Anyone know what sort of bond the two DE captains are signed under?

The bond was describe in that memo outlining the pay increases and recruiting incentive.

Hello CanJetters,

To clarify, WestJet has always paid it's pilots well. The new agreement that is being referred to has increased our base salary by 6.56% true but we also gave 80 to 85 hours at straight time whereas before it would be OT over 80. There's some other things too now that are nice that we didn't have before like credit for days in the sim and groundschool. All in all, not a big pay raise because we've actually been paid well since the beginning.

I don't know about you Leslie, but I want the union for the money first and then the "little things" after. If you are afraid of Rowe shutting the door because of the union, well then its not worth working here in the first place. Time to pay for their pilots, we are losing too many good guys and gals to the coolaid gang on the west coast. Its a real shame.

I think first of all Canjet should change it's name...Canjet flight academy sounds pretty good to me. We're a training ground for the other airlines.the latest pilots to quit didnt last 6 months before they found greener pastures. Now the newer guys signing on with a 30,000 training bond should really have their heads examined. There're way better jobs out there. Locking yourself in for 3 years with that kind of weight around your neck is insane.

There's been mention a few times of this 30,000 dollar bond thing. And flyin' fish says the bond was described in the memo. Here's the text:

"The wording of the Professional Agreement will be changed to reflect the actual training costs (including, but not limited to, simulator costs, hotels, per diems, training pay, instructor's salary, etc.)."

So does anyone know what dollar figure and time period the new DE's signed for?

Hey if you were coming off a Dash or Saab and for your first jet job you were offered left seat in a 737, for more money than guys presently working there, it would probably seem like a pretty good tradeoff!

i argee that some things have to change..some people at CJ complain about the smallest things!! some people should move on and complain elsewhere!! it is driving me nuts!! And then we havethe majority who are amazing!! i guess pilots are going to complain about something no matter where they are..i just go to work, have fun and enjoy life..

agreed Leslie. If this is really the "CanJet Academy" and some really find it that bad, maybe it's time to "graduate".

having fun and enjoying life was alright when we starting our flying careers, but it ain't going to pay the bills, and it ain't going to pay for my kids education...and yes us pilots may complain ( that's our job isn't it???) but at least we don't write each other up over every little stupid thing...I better stop now, the beer tasting way to good and i'm starting to get worked up...
