For all you Jeep people out there
Its the way she goes boys, its the way she goes.

I love my Jeep! It'll go places stock that an H2 would never survive even with a bunch of susp. work!
I've heard they have WEAK tie rods and like to lunch transmissions too. Anyone here own one of those overgrown trashcans?
Aren't the H2's just a chev 1500 chassis with a different body on it?

Poked around underneath today out of my curiousity at the local GM dealer.. They run the same basic chassis and suspension as well as major commonality of all drivetrain related bits. So basically you're buying a crappy knock off body on a basic 15yr old truck chassis for double the price.
It's too bad the jeep liberty and commander also now suck. At least the TJ's are still going strong.

I think I resent the pic of that broken 60 series Cruiser in there…. That EXACT model of Toyota is the Guinness record holder for longest running wheeled vehicle… http://www.weltrekordreise.ch/a_starte.html
Also the only wheeled vehicle to cross the Antarctic, a pair of 100 series cruisers. Landcrusiers are still # 1 in my book for bang for the buck stock unbreakable vehicles… Too bad the industrial versions have been more or less banned from being sold in north America… If you want a new one you have to buy it in the middle east and stick in on a boat.
don’t get me wrong Id say the older jeeps are very good as well as far as a stock 4x4 goes. A few years ago I was out wheeling with a few friends, some roid monkey came along in an H2, tried to follow us (A TJ, a BJ40, my BJ60, and a unimog) across a stream… Ha, he got 1/2 way in, and his computer got wet
damn that was funny to watch…. When we pulled him out the car was possessed, randomly locking up the ABS, funny noises, funny lights going on and off…. Plastic and electronics, have no place off road. Ill see If I can find the picture!

They changed the doors slightly
Changed the hard top, its modular now
changed the fender flares
power windows optional
changed the off road lights, molded into the new front bumper along with a redesigned rear bumper
Its just looking to "streetable" for me now. Its looking like a grocery hauler.
well here, take a look for yourself...

I especially like the fake plastic diamond plate on the inside of the doors.

I'd recommend the 6 cyl. mine was a 4 and it was more than enough for rock crawling in bull low. but it blew ass on the highwayRowdy wrote:I had a 99' cherokee and loved the thing. If only gas wasn't so damn pricey these days.
I might pick up a late 90's 4cyl TJ come fall.

The 6 cyl isnt all that bad on gas. I get about 400 - 450 kms per 60 litre tank. so if i do some quick math... i get between 16-20 mpg's.
well ok that isnt great but its worth it come summer time. I recommend the rubicon, it is a capable machine right out of the box

And a TOYOTA will pass them all...
Hummers may suck but Jeeps aren't far down the line. They're surviving on a reputation built long ago when there wasn't much on the american market to compare to.
Toyota trucks rule the trails. I'll take any Toyota truck over any Jeep any day. Taco/Cruiser/Hilux/Tacoma - whatever - it will surpass a Jeep or any other 4wd in reliability, performance and capability...
BTW I think one of the biggest problems with Hummers (esp the H2/H3) is the people who drive them... Morons without a clue.

Yotas eh? Don't know 'nuff bout the newer ones...
Sure they're decent off road. The older ones came standard with rust and optional was heavy rust. Not so sure about the current powerplants or how long the bodies will last, But the earlier 4's are quite underpowered and the 6's not much better.
Give me the big Iron lump that is a 4.0L series AMC motor. There are a bunch of 4.6 and 5.1L stroked versions running around locally that would knock your socks clean off. Have a good friend (just up the road from me) with a twin screw supercharger on the 2.5L 4cyl and I have to tell ya.. Thats probably the way I'd go.
Wha Happen - I had a 99 4.0L in the Aerodynamic Brick of a cherokee with an Auto. Even with all synthetics (diff, T case, trans etc) a K&N free'r flowing exhaust and a throttle body spacer.. The best it would ever manage on the freeway was 22mpg and between 17-19 in town. Not bad.. but not great.

I'm definitely a toyota man.... this summer I'm stuck with a ford car, but this winter (or..sigh...eventually) I hope I can be the proud owner of a '90-'95 4runner or pickup. Then I can (sigh...eventually due to pilot wages)do all of this to it: (and more)
31 (or33 with 1" body lift) x10.5" BFG all-terrain T/A's, new HD springs rear (3" lift), new HD torsion bars front (cranked up 3"), new shocks (doetsch/bilstein), LSPV bracket, Detroit lockers, extended diff breathers, and long-travel ball joints. Perhaps some homemade rock armor/bumpers too.
it'll kick any hummer's ass.

there is no way that a tacoma is more capable than the rubicon fresh out of the box.Taco/Cruiser/Hilux/Tacoma - whatever - it will surpass a Jeep or any other 4wd in reliability, performance and capability...
