PBY type rating.
If anyone is interested in flying for the Dutch Catalina group I will be here for a little longer.
The cost for the training for the type rating 10,000 Euro plus the fees to the CAA for the ride and paper work of 275.00 Euro.

I only put that out to see what would come of it.
The way this works here is the society do at times take new pilots on as volunteer part time fill in's what really makes it interesting is there are guys that want to fly it who will invest in the type rating. At present we have five that are type rated and one new one that hopefully will take his ride in a few days.
And the fun went out of this long ago Hedley, this is just plain work and nothing more.
What I want to do is go home and spend the summer playing with my sail boat and not be tied to an airplane.
Actually I'm bored, bored, bored, and hope we finish in a few days.

" Yeah, but after you've been home a while, I'll bet you'll take them up again on their next offer "
I don't think so Hedley, I really have had enough and would like to maybe just finish building my Cub and close the circle.
My first job was crop dusting with a Cub, so why not end my flying days playing with a Cub?

Hey, you guys still have to hear the worst of my downslide into stupidity.
This trip over here I am flying for free, I was dumb enough to become a member and try and help them keep the Cat flying.
All these societies that try and keep WW2 airplanes flying always need people to volunteer...the jet pilots of course do it to become real pilots.

Well today should be my last for the recurrent training stuff, its 11:10 AM and the weather is still below VFR but hpoefully it will improve enough the slip over to the water and get this stuff finished with the CAA inspector.
Here is the latest picture of the Dutch Cat.

Eureka...I'm free, free, free at last.
The low cloud and fog lifted and we did the certification flight for Bert the guy who is now approved to do CAA type rating check rides and issue the type ratings.
All three of us are happy, me I can go home as soon as I can find a seat. The CAA because Bert met the standards and of course Bert because he finally does not need me.
Clunk to answer your questions , yes this airplane is operated to the same standards as 705 in Canada.
It took three years and finally everything is finished and they have six qualified pilots. One of which is now a flight test examiner.
All I have left to do is finish my commitments to customers in England, South Africa and Hong Kong annd that should wrap up my flying career...there is a possibility that the French Cat will be doing a two year around the world flight for the UN, in which case I will maybe give them a hand as long as I don't have to fly much.
I'm thinking of getting into religon where the real money is, I kinda like the hearing confessions part, might save me a lot of hunting.

hmm, that would be interesting. Your weekly gatherings at the chapel (use a hangar till you have funds to build a proper one) can include all sorts of participation, probably involving airplanes operating in view of the congregation at 'open throttle'. Ofc, the collection plate will be passed around, it's expensive to run this church.Hedley wrote:yeah, no kidding. The tax advantages are awesome. I was thinking about forming the Church of the Open Throttle. Kind of a catchy name, dontcha think?
Churches do seem to be able to sidestep a lot of tax rules. I wonder if your gatherings for worshipping the open throttle would be exempt from all those silly TC airshow rules. You may be on to something here Hedley... Something about 'religious freedom' in the constitution, and, the constitution definitely trumps CARS in court....
