Becoming a prostitute--er, pilot---for hire
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has flown as a contract pilot in various parts of the world---especially interested in whether or not you had to pay to maintain (or obtain) your type ratings or if this is something you could work out with the employer. Any experience with Storm, ACASS or other agencies, or did you go it alone, etc.

Isn't "Being a prostitute for hire" redundant?
Don't all prostitutes charge, therefore they are "for hire"?
I've never met a prostitute that gave it away for free, but I can't say I've spent that much time looking.
Wouldn't a better title be, "Being a slut for hire", or simply just "Being a prostitute?"
P.S. When pilots get upset about other pilots who work for free, I am reminded of wonderful years I've spent in college towns, where if you can't get laid there, you can't get laid anywhere - it's being given away for free, everywhere
Pretty tough location (and they say location is everything in business) for a prostitute. I can just see the prostitute's assocation (union) approaching the mayor and town council, complaining that the college girls are putting them out of business!

There is no standard, but for me:Captain Stinky wrote:I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has flown as a contract pilot in various parts of the world---especially interested in whether or not you had to pay to maintain (or obtain) your type ratings or if this is something you could work out with the employer. I've worked on contract a few times....
Are you looking for where the prostitutes are the cheapest???
They're pretty cheap in the DR, but I've heard the Phillipines is even better.
I'm not saying from personal experience..... ah crap.... yes I am. (cat, you know what I'm talking about)
Ha ha.....
Good times.....
Any other questions??

"tee hee!* he said "prostitute!" *hee hee hee!*
Ok kids....we can get over the hooker references now.
A few more questions:
What are the most common ways to get into contracts; direct company contact or agencies?
What are the most common aircraft? My research would tell me A320 family and Dash 8.
What parts of the world are most open to this?
Oh, it is pungent

I find it ironic that you lecture us about our level of immaturity when you can't get over constant references to your odor problems. My advice-- buy a bar of soap and shower daily. Trying to grow up is also a worthy pursuit.
Now, changing to the issue at hand, many contracts are advertised. Some are through agencies, some are direct. Not all agencies are created equally-- beware.
In the "airline" world, most positions seem to be for small airbuses or Boeing 737 NG's. Yes, also some Dash 8 positions, but an equal amount of ATR ones too. As far as corporate, anything goes. A significant amount of time is normally required, so don't go out running to buy yourself a Type Rating in something you've never flown before.
What parts of the world? Europe, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean. Wherever there is a need, basically. Take a look at http://www.climbto350.com for ideas.
