I don't think he should have had gum in his mouth.
Gosh...those armed forces boys have got to be the best of the best of the best to be in peak shape is all areas.
I worked with a pilot that was in the right seat of a B757 prior to that he was a CF18 jockey now retired. You could almost feel his boredom flying over the pond straight and level.
Most upgrades for us we need to adjust to the faster speed of the aircraft than what we were used to flying prior...I think his training on the B757 was...Manageable.

Give the guy credit for having a sense of humour; just prior to one of the maneuvers, "wake me up when we're done." Reminds me of a guy in my squadron in Germany; he never failed to bring back at least one full bag whenever he went flying in a Hornet, but he kept going back up.
